Wiring Diagram - Shore Power Only

Postby RoskoPcoltrain » Thu Jul 03, 2008 2:42 pm

I would like you guys to take a look at my wiring diagram to see if everything looks alright. Should I install a GFI? If so where at? Thanks!

Good diagram. I put my GFCI right out of the breaker box and ran most of the outlets down stream. I left the TV and air conditioner without GFCI.

Could always use GFI breakers eliminating one "additional" device...

That wasn't much of an explanation. I put the GFCI out of one of the 15amp breakers and ran the tv and air off the other. In your case you can run your galley off one and the cabin off the other. You can run up to 6 devices down from the GFCI but watch what you plug in.

To be more specific. Protect your galley circuits with a GFCI. Put the GFCI first in line hooking up the wires to the "line" side of the GFCI. Wire your second plug using the "load" side of the GFCI. You might also give some consideration to putting your galley lights on the GFCI circuit as well. You will note that around the house GFCIs are required anywhere a ground source is present. This includes sinks (copper plumbing) and outdoors where you are standing on the ground. Using that logic, the galley should be your prime focus for a GFCI.

GFCI Location

Postby wlooper89 » Sun Aug 03, 2008 2:18 pm

Keep in mind that the GFCI protects only what is downstream or load side. In my case the electrical compartment is an aluminum box with the shore power inlet in one side and lots of wires inside the box. To protect this area and the whole trailer I attached a GFCI to the shore power inlet. It can also be in a breaker box if you prefer. This way if A/C shorts to something we might touch, possibly standing on wet ground, anywhere after the shore power inlet or breaker box we are protected.
