I had the same problem with the 5.2 mm from my local lowes. It seems to measure about 3/16. My radius is 19 inches. On the body I left the cracks and will cover with aluminum. The hatch I plan to use the water technique and hopefully avoid covering with metal.

In the modell making scene, there is also availeble 1 mm baltic birch, used in airplaine buildings. I use 3 mm baltic birch without water. Make sure you see the wood lines horizontaly, thats almost impossible to break the ply.
