Mandy, bummer about no camping. How's the cardboard box coming?

I was so excited when Pam told me she'd changed her plans to spend a night in Cody and come up through Yellowstone. I graduated from Cody High, and there's just a couple friends left there that I wanted to show off the Turtle to. Of course, she's gonna look a little rough next to the Cherry Drop, but then, most of my old friends know I've always been a little rough myself. I'll even get to take a different route down and have lunch with a friend in Belfry, MT (Home of the Bats-seriously, that's the team mascot-I'll try to take a picture of the statue thingy for you).

I've been doing a little work to the Turtle-no pics yet. I've been using it for dump and lumber yard runs. Not smart. Anyhow, I fixed my shelf, painted the interior, stapled up cloth to cover the spars and started trimming the edges with rope. Oh, and I'm about half way done with redoing the outside trim. I think that's where the winter water came in. I didn't put screws in all the little holes, and I also didn't caulk them.

Finally getting to know some of the neighbors. One lady came by last week, "Hi Cassie's Mom, I'm Alex's Mom, I'm having a party". I went and had a blast. Turns out her husband's seen the teardrop video and was a bit curious. Another neighbor came over and offered me the use of some concrete working tools (I'm in the middle of forming the new sidewalk). I think he felt sorry for me doing it all myself, but I also think he wanted to see the Turtle. He did. Was probably about to run screaming into the Netherlands by the time I was done showing him.

Thanks Lisa! When I first drew the smiley to put here I wanted to do it and Mike gave me the "look". Under no circumstances was he ever going to sleep in a smiley.

This was great fun so it kinda makes up for it. Someday someone will make one. It really wasn't that hard.

Hows the weather over there in MO? My niece and her Husband and Kids are driving to St. Louis in a couple of days and I was wondering.

Wish I could go an visit with ya Miriam but, they are going to visit with his family.

I went fishing at a pay lake outside of Albuquerque only reason I went was because they are having a fishing derby. They only have catfish now cause it's too hot for trout. Darn. The lady next to me caught 2 taged fish I think one was worth 60.00 and the other was worth 80.00. I caught 2 but none were taged. Darn The lake people said that there are still 2 $500.00 ones out there and that the derby is going on untill the 25th. I might go again but I won't hold my breath.

Instead I want to raise money for a weeklong campout in the Jemez mountains. I think I'll go and sell some stuff at the fleamarket this weekend for extra cash.

Julie, I am anxiously awaiting the photos of your freshly painted trailer! It sounds like it is going to be amazing!

I took my trailer out camping for the first time over the June 20th-23rd weekend, and I finally loaded some pics onto my Flickr site. The trailer is still not quite finished (I still have to finish the cabinets), and I have already discovered one thing I am going to have to fix this fall/winter. The seams where the ply comes together on the roof (2 seams) are splitting a bit. I am going to have to do a bit of sanding and then lay some fiberglass and epoxy on those seams, then do a bit more painting. Ugh...I knew I should have tapped it with fiberglass before, but I was in such a rush to get it finished I cut that corner. Ah well....

I played with my D.O. while camping, and I made Mountain Man breakfast one morning and a triple chocolate cake for dessert one night. Both turned out amazing, and I wish I had taken photos.

The Yakima River had been running high, and the mosquito population had a bit of a boom. We were getting eaten alive! All in all though, it was a great first trip for the trailer, and we put together a fairly concise list of all the things we need to get for the next trip.

I know you are proud...you sure did one heck of a beautiful job building her. Now comes the fun part of buying accessories. My husband calls mine the "million dollar Teardrop". I love stuff!
How did it pull with your Subaru? I've been in that area where you camped once. I also played with a softball traveling team and we played a tournament in the TriCities area. Nice camping country you live in.
Haven't camped lately...too much rain. So like Miriam, I am really getting my house in order.

Amy the joy you must of felt when you parked your Teardrop in the forest was ten fold I bet. I've been to Washington State but I don't remember seeing the Yakama River. I looks beautiful there I need to go visit my Sister in WA. We're proud of ya.

Rebecca I heard there might be a hurricane forming in the Atlantic already. The weather is strange this year, we had a late spring if any seems we went from winter to summer. Now it looks like were in monsoon season like 2 months early. Take care Rebecca, Mary, and Steve we don't want you guy blowing away on us. Seriously.

Rebecca, I am definitely going into accessory stage! I have some fabric that coordinates with the curtains I made, and I plan on making some throw pillows to keep in the trailer. We also went out on Saturday to do a little "shopping spree" to get stuff like a tiny dish drying rack, etc... I am already planning the side tables that I am going to make. One is going to be a rip off of your dishwashing station. The other will be a prep table. Of course I still have to finish the cabinets, and I have plans to make a removable bumper (that is what the two hitches in back are for). It is a never-ending project, but I love it!

The Subaru pulls it great! It is the LL Bean addition (dang I feel like a yuppy just saying I have that version), and it can pull 3,000 lbs. The trailer is about 1,300 lbs loaded, so the car pulls it great. I can definitely feel a difference, and it is weird getting used to it.

Mandy, Yakima is a pretty dry area of Washington, and there are a lot of vineyards and wineries around there. We did a little wine tasting while we were down there. The river is a great one to float on since it is only class 1. Of course it was still running a bit high when we floated, so we hit some nice rapids that we weren't expecting! That was fun!

We are heading down to the southern coast of Washington for our next camping trip this coming weekend. We'll be staying at a place called Twin Harbors State Park, right next to the beach.

Hang in there all of you in the wet areas. I'll do a little sun-dance for you and hope your weather improves so you can get out camping!

Mandy that doesn't cover the double row in front of the fence. Most of it from our trees. Really tall Oaks have lots of limbs. I am sure come the next ice storm we will be grateful. Truthfully next camping trip will have lots of firewood

Miriam, that's a lot of nice firewood you have. I used to enjoy chopping firewood. We don't really use much here in Florida but sometimes it does get cold. But, we just cheat and use those pretend logs. I miss the smell of real wood burning though.

YAY!!!! It's my last day at "stupid work", tomorrow I pack up and roll Thursday morning.... Thursday afternoon, Cody, WY, Sam and the Turtle!!!! I can't standmyself for all the excitement!!!!

I do not have a laptop but.... I'll be seeing some of you on the way and can throw a few words on the board as I travel thru.... May have to wait for pictures....
