Marine Vinyl from Joann Fabrics -- got it on sale for around $30 for 16ft. First I laid down a roll of automotive headlining -- it's about 3/16 inch and I glued that down. I didn't glue the vinyl -- I just stapled it taut in place. I have edge molding that will cover up the staples. I did lay a bead of waterproof caulk under the vinyl near the edge, and I'll put another bead of caulk on before I put the molding on.

I like the way you did that vinyl. What do you have under it? 1/8" plywood? And do you have a picture of the edge molding you plan on using?

Joann Fabrics? That's my wife's favorite store, she can't stay out of the place. They do send her nice 40% off coupons though. Darn, I guess I will have to go with her next time. What kind of headliner did you use for the base? Was it foam or something else. It looks really, really nice. You did a great job. I was going to paint my roof and now I'm thinking vinyl (thanks to you). And like Mike asked, is your roof 1/8" ply (1 or 2 sheets)?

how will that hold up? the seats in our boat crack and fade, is there something that can be used to treat that with to prevent it happening?

Yes I have the 1/8" plywood beneath -- I've heard Gage say it's plenty strong enough -- and it is.

This picture shows the edge molding I'm going to use. I just cut off a foot or so to test fit. It'll have a red insert the same color as the roof.

Here's a pic of the headliner I used -- also from Joann with a 40% off coupon. It's burgundy on one side and as you can see foam on the other. It's a little more than 1/8 but less than 1/4 in thickness. I glued this down first and floated the vinyl. I just hope that it doesn't ripple much in the sun. I think I have it taut enough to prevent that.

Also a pic of the rear end with the vinyl fitted and the rear lamps "resting" in place.

Thanks for the pics and info, VERY helpful. I'm seriously considering doing my teardrop that way, only with white vinyl (the sides will be red). Very professional looking job. :applause:

When I told my wife that you got your vinyl from Joann's she said "No way!" I don't think she ever went by the vinyl area, she has a fetish for fabric. You got to love those 40% off coupons. The wife said you must have help, guys aren't supposed to shop at Joann's and know about the coupons (I only know because of her). :lol:

It was more than 25 years before I had to replace my vinyl seats on my MGB -- and that stuff from the 70's wasn't have as good as the new stuff. I figure if it'll last me 10 years I'll be ready for a color change by then :lol:
