I spoke with my butcher today, regarding the meat order for the pit barbeque... Prices have went up from last time... Imagine That???
I see that we have had 11 partys/27 people cancel.
If you aren't going to be able to make the trip and haven't notified us, please do so...
I'd like to have an accurate count of people before ordering the meat.
Thanks.

Dean...this might also be a good time to mention some things about the parking.

We have been tentatively told that we can use the grassy field for trailers and camping, but weren't allowed to mass park cars on the field especially on a drive in and out basis. Things are going to be "cozy" at this IRG in spite of those that have canceled. In order to accommodate as many trailers in the trees, it would be a great help if people might think about long term parking on the perimeter of the campsite. Multiple vehicles (extras) for 1 trailer are going to be very difficult to fit in and will take space away from others that maybe have never had the chance to camp in the Redwoods. Since many are driving considerable distances, please work with us in helping to make it a successful and stress free gathering. There will be an area for those of you that have special access situations so that you don't have to deal with the stairs to the lower area and is close to the main gathering area. Thanks in advance. Doug

Hi Dean,

Does this mean there are fresh openings at the IRG? I would like to attend with 2 TDs and 8 people.

Let me know what I need to do.

Thanks,

I'm sorry folks... We won't be adding people from a waiting list to "top-off" the registered number of people back to 250, which is the limit of people the county places on us.
Why???...
We have some parking concerns.
We feel that parking may become a bit crowded.
I am going to try to meet with the ranger this weekend and take my concerns to him.
I am also going to walk the entire grove to get an idea of how many cars we can get in there, without it becoming too crowded.
We were assured that the meadow will be available for teardrops for additional camping space, but not for vehicles, so camping spots isn't our concern right now, it's where to park the cars in the other areas without creating a bottleneck situation.
I will have some follow-up information to share after my visit to the grove this Saturday.

Thanks Doug & Dean for addressing the site/parking issues. I had just posted this question on the IRG website and now see here that you are working on it.

I was wondering how sites would be assigned etc and if there was room to park by my trailer. What time can we begin to pull in? I will be heading North early that morning and can adjust stops for lunch/sightseeing for correct arrival time.

Dean,

It's hard to believe the months have rushed by and IRG is almost here. I signed up for two people. Cut that in half. There's lots of work ahead for my teardrop to be finished or even campable. With a little luck, maybe  its walls will be up before my departure for IRG. I'll camp in a tent under the redwoods. In the spirit of turning lemons into lemonade I'll be enthusiasticly checking out teardrop trailers for good ideas :pictures: to borrow.

8) See you all soon,

This is the way mine looks as of last night. Less than two weeks to 'Get-R-Done'. You'll notice I do have the ice chest located.

Hi Gage, looking good.

It looks like you, Dean from San Diego, and Dean of the Redwoods are in a 3 way race to the finish. I'm out of this race. Way, way, too many corners would have to be cut. My fall back goal is to have a campable TD in time for the SLO Gathering in mid September. I've been fiberglassing the walls flat on sawhorses and today will finish bolting the floor to the trailer. I'm more toward the end of the beginning than near the beginning of the end. Plenty of middle work ahead too.

Nor Cal or bust. Just a little 500 mile drive to go to get a taste of Dean's deep pit cooked meat. Yum yum!

Doug...sites aren't assigned as it's a large camping area. More like a festival type camping situation. There are tables and fire rings, but as far as a numbered site, each with a table and ring...nope. Keeping that in mind, a small folding table might be a good addition for people to bring for their site. Doug

Pamplin Grove YouTube movies

Postby Esteban » Thu Jul 10, 2008 4:01 pm

For your viewing pleasure here are three YouTube movies of the 2006 IRG and the Pamplin Grove campground to give you a taste of what we'll all be enjoying soon. There are even a couple shots of the deep pit BBQ Dean of the Redwoods and friends will be using for our meat eating pleasure.

bdosborn's YouTube of the first IRG in 2006. Teardrop Trailer - International Redwoods Gathering

"Julie's tour of the wedding location" A Pamplin Grove Walk Thruis a hand held movie by Julie, a bride to be, of the Pamplin Grove redwoods, picnic tables, fire ring, cook house area, then down the steps to the lower meadow (a camping area for IRG) by the river.

Followed up with Julie's walk to the river

IRG Parking

Postby John T3 » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:45 pm

For what it's worth, I parked in the lower campground last time beside a large 'tent only' area bordered by a split rail fence which we were not able to park teardrops on. It was a very nice spot with picnic benches and fire rings. I'd recommend steering anyone tent camping there.
