Build Plaque

Postby Creamcracker » Wed Jul 09, 2008 6:35 pm

I was wondering if anyone had put a plaque on their build --- saying who built it where when or any variation thereof? In the past anything I have made I've signed with a woodburning tool -- so that in the years to come any grandkids or relatives would know who/when/where.

I just don't know what to do with Napsack. I'm leaning towards a discreet signature and something a little more visible that would say:
"A Welshman Custom Trailer" or some such variation. What have you all done (if anything) give me some ideas---please?

I mounted a small brass plaque that I had someone make for me in the galley, noting the builder date, & Teardrop Travel Trailer.

That's really nice Dan, and thanks for the idea Looped  I might do something of that sort now...

I work on old cars all the time and I always find it to be a real treat to find the hidden factory build sheet behind a door panel or on top of the gas tank or something, so in the little box I used that my grandfather made 40 years ago that I used to hold up the AC unit, (open side down of course) I quickly put one of my old to-do lists in with a similar signature on the back side of it in there before it was glued and screwed down. I imagine someone replacing the unit someday and needing to pull up that box and finding that...

Seeing what you have done inspires me to make a more public one tho. I will also be making some kind of plaque that states the name of the tear as well, no idea how or where at this point tho.

I've scribbled notes, dates and names (along with dimensions and what-not) all over various parts of the trailer during construction. Of course all these got hidden, but if anyone ever pulls it apart to rebuild it someday they'll find plenty to read.
I like the idea of a plaque though. I might look into it.

plaque

Postby mary and bob » Thu Jul 10, 2008 12:06 am

not a "who made" plaque on ours, but Tim Hornshaw [hornshaw woodworks] made us a year piece, actually to cover a hole in the door, and a name plaque, to cover another hole on the side, which are done in inlaid wood. he does great work at reasonable prices. now he is designing a camping sign for us, already did one for our daughter, and that's a great looking piece too. don't have pictures in our album yet.

If remember right on a little brass plaque had name of builder, year built and city and state engraved on it. Figured whoever ends up with it would know where it originated from.
