shocks

Postby Ron Dickey » Thu Jul 10, 2008 11:13 pm

I have a trailer that is an old one I replaced the wheels and bearings but did nothing about the springs or the little shocks on it.

the Springs seem ok but the shocks are leaking oil they are very small.

Do I replace them or is there a rebuild bor such. I would guess I will need to take it to a tire place and ask them if they can replace the shocks.

Is there any thing I can use inplace of them?

Are there any numbers, brand names on the shocks. Remove one of the shocks and see how far it will collapse. Measure from bolt centre to centre, repeat with the shock fully extended. Take measurements and the shock to a parts person at an old fashioned auto parts store.

good luck del

Monroe makes shocks for small trailers(and everything else)...take the shock off and goto a Monroe dealer or find a NAPA store.........

Exactly.

If you don't want to depend on finding a useful person, check in the same catalog they would use, obtained from the manufacturer's web site. For example, Monroe: see Length & Mounting Information.
