Are we going to have miniature versions of these little buggers for our trailers, too?

When incandescent bulbs are outlawed only outlaws will have incandescent bulbs.

Now here is an issue Yomama and Cane should talk about!

I'm renting a warehouse long term...an' stocking it with incandescent bulbs to sell on the black market...while all the smugglers are going to EPA jail, MY supply will already be here...ready to supply the addictions of my fellow citizens and neighbors!

All fluorescent bulbs have mercury in them. Go into any store or office building and take a look at all those long glowing tubes in the ceiling. Think for a second about how many decades we've been using fluoresent bulbs. But of course CFLs are notw the scourge of humanity. Whatever! :?

I can think of a few more important things going on in the world than legally requiring Americans to use a little less electricity by switching to CFLs, which use approximately 1/5 the energy of a comparable incandescent.

Some research in my country has shown that most people believe that they do not need to change their own behaviour to reduce carbon emissions - it's just other people or 'big business' that need to do it!

Times change, but old farts (of all ages) find that very hard to accept, or to adapt to.

  Doesn't Mercury cause insanity? I guess we will all have an excuse. Excuse me sir---the light bulb made me do it. 8) But teacher, the bulb broke and fell on my homework.

The Congressman does have a few good points. Speak of transferring wealth. Now you just gotta wonder if the Chinese company is a former American company. 8)

Well I don't really have a formulated opinion just yet but...

2 of the kitchen lights, the family room light, all 5 bedroom lights, and the basement lights in the house that I just sold are on rheostats... where are CFL's there. The poor new owner is going to have to swap out all those switches with ones that just flip on.

Unless I'm missing something, are there any CFL's out there capable of "dimming"?

Wonder if after we are all "switched" over to these bulbs if there might just be a mandated environmental recovery fee tacked on to them. Sounds like a great opportunity to impose another tax. Doug

CFLs that work on dimmers are available, but they're fairly new and cost about 50% more than usual CFLs. An interesting alternative is 'step-able' CFLs that have four different power levels and can be stepped between them by switching them rapidly on and off - otherwise they work normally.

Oops! I raided my homeland security duct tape stash when I built my trailer. I'm screwed.
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.
