Designing a Puffie Standie?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

I agree, a bathroom inside the trailer is the last concession I make to old age. This book might be helpful in dealing with those remote locations with no bathroom:

 Better not make it to old age but to progressive laws. Missouri is following several other states and enacting a law making urination in public a sex crime. And requiring registration.

Get those tents and porta potties bought.

Are you kidding? A sex crime? That's going way too far. :?
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Then How can you put out fires in an emergency? (just had to go there)

And also, doesn't that just go against the state motto?

Just had to go there? Like we haven't heard that one before. Here's your ticket!

Duane King wrote:Back when we used to own a tent trailer we discovered we did not like to cook in the cabin galley. It was too cramped and the cooking smells kind of took over the whole cabin. I think a similar problem might arise with having a porta-potty in a tiny trailer. Depending on how small your trailer and what diet you follow, it could get kinda ripe in there.

:?

The only reason I would want a toilet in a small trailer is if I was camping in a totally remote area and bathrooms were not available. Just my two cents. . .

Duane is absolutely right, About the inside getting ripe that's why you need a separate room with some sort of exhaust fan like in Steve's Puffin.
I also had a pop-up we also had the same problems as you with cooking odors inside and also from the potty that was just stored under a counter( no enclosure). :dead:
You know I guess it just depends on how you like to camp and where. I say just for the sake of argument ;) lets just let Mike design the plans with a bathroom and if you don't want/need it just scratch out the word "bathroom" and write in "closet" on your plans
As for me and mine were going #2 in the house  .
I love this thread!

The Sex Crime thing thats just plain silly. What happened to common sense?

More like regressive laws? :? I like the closet versus bathroom train of thought though....

P.S. Don't tell anyone but I measured the shower in build #2 to make sure a portable toilet would fit . :poop:

The Book

Postby M B Hamilton » Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:54 pm

Oh man, she's updated "How to **** in the Woods" again. Looks like we buy yet another copy.

For any of you who have never seen or read this book, I highly recommend it. And display it proudly in your bookcase as well. The author is having lots of fun with this book and it shows in her writing. You'll likely learn something as well.

Okay, getting back to the standy.

Mike, would this qualify as a standy? After my last post I feel a bit akward, because it felt a bit like I was hijacking the thread - something which I don't want to do...

Image

Also Mike, to help with the standy design, could you give me a few details?
1. What is the size of the frame? 5 feet x 10 feet?
2. What size tyres? 13 inch?
3. How high is the trailer frame off the ground?
4. What is the size of the wooden floor framing?
5. What is the ideal size of the bed?
6. What are the dimensions of the bathroom?
7. How wide is the widest the trailer should be?
8. Maximum height of trailer? This should be a careful consideration to minimize drag.
9. Could you provide a side profile of your current standie, with dimensions?

Thanks!
Barrie

Keep moving forward.

OK Mike I have changed my mind after reading all the posts I think I am now leaning towards the 10X5 With a Queen size bed in length way so you don't have to crawl over your spouse. shower/potty small inside galley, with drop floor. With a outside table that attaches to the tear like Steve's Puffin for cooking.

The potty, when only used for 'nighttime comfort,' should not smell. You do use chemicals, right?

To maximize headroom, maybe a ripoff of the Chalet dormer could be done:

Boy am I glad I found this thread. I've been thinking about building a standy for my first build which will start here very soon. I want to find a 5x10 trailer and want to build it with an actual interior height of 5ft. But I am confused on floorplans as well. Would the inclusion of a potty room make it so you couldn't have a rear galley? What about weight distribution? Everything in the rear would make it butt heavy. I think the first floorplan in this thread had it pretty much right. I'll be watching!
