trailer frame built out of wood instead

I will start in advance and appologize for being a newbie.... sorry

I was looking around the web and saw some plans for an all wood trailer from popular mechanics way back in the day.

Has anyone done this? anyone have a reason why it shouldn't be done?





BTW, I did a search for wood frame in the forum but ended up with 200 pages of stuff, looked through the first 15 and found nothing.

Welcome Derick...checkout dwgriff's pics and posts he has built a really super nice all wood tear...it can definitely be done with careful planning and engineering....

The only reason I could think of not going that route would be maintenance. Also weight could eventually end up as a limitation depending on the type of wood used.

One thing this makes me think of (sorry about the hijack) are the wooden gravity powered go cart racer things. I built one as a teenager, I used a piece of wood on a hinge that I could pull on and it would press against the tire to stop, scary but loads of fun. The front axle was a 2 x 4 with a big bolt through the middle and to turn you pushed on one side or the other with your feet

Might have been the poor guys first time to see a bunch of young pirates plying the Southern tradewinds of Oklahoma, after almost 50 years, I can still remember the look on his face when we hit him
