This site is kind of interesting. It rates locations on how easy it is to get around on foot -- or live without a car.

My address rated a score of 17 (out of 100). No surprise. It is hard to walk anywhere where I live.

Check it out and see how your address rates.

I hear ya Jack. I don't think they take Wal Mart into consideration, most of the places they list are much farther that the Wally world down the street. At least I did score a 28  It would probably help me to walk a little, but that just ain't happening.

wow !!!! I actually scored a 62 out of 100.... BUT for schools they only listed the Catholic school, while there is an elem, jr high and high school within 1/4 mile of me. the only clothing store is a thrift store.

They must not be updated because with 1/2 mile is a HUGE shopping center with Kohls, Target, Lowes, petsmart, JcPenney, and all the restaurants from Panda Express to Chili's...

I live in the "original mile" of my suburb, which was designed just for the same "walkable" reasons: schools, shopping, grocery, park, church, ... all within good distance.

But my job is 20 miles one way across OKC. I seriously was thinking of getting a motorcycle...... or spend 4 hours on the bus every day.
Some things are way over my head !! ...but it keeps me looking UP!

Hmm I got a 46 out of 100 and (car dependant) which I hardly agree with. That address (I just sold this house exactly one week ago) was very convenient to walk everywhere. There was a park with tennis courts in the neighborhood. The elementary school was about 1 mile away, the high school right across the street, holy crap with the stores and restaraunts that were all within 1/3 of a mile. The only place I drove was to work or unless we wanted to drive across town somewhere.

And.... Our public transportation system is pretty awesome, the train runs all over the place and has a crapload of stops, and the bus network is huge.

I don't think this website factors in as many things as necessary, it's just a "fun" tool.

We got a 26. I even disagree with that. it shows a neighborhood grocery  and cafe. it would be cheaper to pay for gas and go to a large grocery.

I got a 43. I have multiple restaurants; grocery stores; couple of churchs; elementary, middle and high schools; public library; gym; and a couple city parks....all within two miles of my house. As usual, I'm disagreeing with the "experts".

45-Car dependent. I live in Texas. Is that any surprise?

But without a car, how would people ever know how smart/macho/sexy/rich/stupid/environmentally conscience/selfish/thrifty (cheap)/stuck up/ and so forth, we are? We would have to actually talk to people. E-gad! Jeeves, bring me a cool towel--I think I am about to swoon with the vapors!
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

Couldn't find my address. Tried my fathers and it listed a movie theater that has not played movies in about 10 years. The building is still there and looks like a movie theater, but is privately owned and used.
