Speaker size

Postby Steve F » Sun Jul 20, 2008 3:14 am

I have a 9.2" flip down LCD screen and car stereo that also plays DVD's and USB and SD cards etc but I'm not sure what size speakers to get. I dont want overkill but I do want something nice to listen too without feeling like I'm in a speaker box.

Soooo, what size and how many speakers do you have in your tear?

Cheers

Steve, I have a 200w Sony CD/MP3/AM/FM and run 2 x 6" 100w speakers. Sounds fine for what we want.
Cheers

Steve, I used two Sony 5 1/2" 4 way speakers from Walmart in both tears and it sounds great. With the shape & size of a tear you don't need much more. :D Danny

Thanks guys, I now have a pair of speakers and am thinking of getting another pair to mount in the galley but do I really want everyone else to 'share' my music while I make breakfast..... Anyway, where did you mount the speakers, I'm thinking at the foot end of the trailer but near the walls for better stereo separation or nearer the centre? Or will it really not matter in that size space with sound bouncing around everywhere?

Cheers

Steve, thanks for your considerate thoughts. What your enjoying may not be what others want to listen to. We only have cabin speakers at the foot board cabinets for just that reason. Camping is to get away from it all including someones music. I'd rather share the sounds of nature while camping. :D Danny

One idea i have been chewing on for a while is to put the stereo and speakers in the galley wall in such a way that they can be spun around.

have a pin going up and a pipe going down to allow the wires to run through.

the actual head unit box would be kinda bulky but figure i could make a shelf on top of it so it isnt wasted space and the boxes that the speakers are in would make them sealed like component speakers.

6.5 inch

Postby ferociousllama » Thu Aug 07, 2008 7:04 pm

I worked at a car stereo shop for about 3 years. a 6.5 inch speaker will make the best sound. You should get 2 or 3 way speakers. The 3 way speakers give more highs than the 2 way. Let me know what you decide on going with and I can tell you what similar or better options there are.
