Stainless... what is this?

I'm in the Seattle area to start with.
So, what is this stuff called and where can I get some? (the stainless squares area)
I'm thinking about using it for some of my galley area.

I've heard of it being called quilted stainless. Check or ask at a stainless shop that specializes in restaurant work, or at a manufacturer/outfitter of catering trucks. Some google searches might come up with a supplier that will sell small quanities. Check the first one when you google "quilted stainless" they have all sorts of wild patterns. I got discouraged on that exotic stuff as it was really expensive. I'll bet it's still not cheap. Just the plain stainless on the countertops I've done was pretty pricey, and I bought it scratched. If you haven't worked with stainless, it can be a learning experience. I like the idea however. Doug

OK, now I have something to work with.
I didn't realize that this stainless was made of an unobtanium super-enriched alloy by under aged elves chained to the floor in a basement somewhere in South Park, Co.



I think I'll pick up a can of Mexichrome at the dollar store instead.

I bet you could get that at one of those designer places beneath pike place market. There used to be an antique place in Tacoma that specialized in Deco stuff. If you started poking around some of those places. You might even find someone who would be interested enough to do it for cost....

Kitchen design places will have stainless a backsplash, just order the size you want. Another option is Formica Authentix, it looks cheaper if you don't need heat protection.

The Authentix formica is a great option. It is relatively inexpensive and is much easier to work with. The thing with it is, the pattern is really really small like less than 1/2" squares and doesn't have the flash of a stainless. I had samples of the different patterns and thought of using it on a tear. Opted for the boomerang in gray instead. I think it would work great for a backsplash, but it has a raised pattern that might show some wear fairly quickly on the peaks of the diamonds if used in a counter top situation. Go pick up a sample and check it out, samples are free! I like it...just need to find a place to use it. Doug

Do you need a sheet that size? You can find aluminum, or stainless tiles in squares. To cut for the layouts, just use a good tin, or metal shear. I have a picture of someones trailer using these tiles, but having computer problems at the moment.

That's a quilt pattern, decorative sheet metal. I looked at it in satin and bright stainless quilt for the area behind my kitchen stove. Last fall it was going for $50 sq. ft. around here. The price of metal is thru the roof these days.

Try to get it direct from a manufacturers' or metal supply house. I found resturant suppliers are more expensive.
