I'm currently on medical leave after having a hysterectomy and bladder tack last Wednesday. I'm finally feeling well enough to spend some time on the computer. If I keep feeling better at this rate, it's going to be a looooong six weeks. I can't lift anything over 10 pounds for a month, so no T@Bing for me for the time being.

I hope everyone else is doing well. I'll have a lot of time to spend on here for a bit :-)

Image Hey Carol, my sisters tell me the worst thing you can do it get feeling well enough to do anything. Rest and eat some bon bons. Oh but playing on the puter is therapeutic. Best wishes and a prayer for your recovery.

Thanks for the good thoughts. I'm going to be careful. I value my ability to go out and do the fun things too much to put it at risk by doing stuff I'm not supposed to do. I've ordered both Netflix and Blockbuster and have the laptop here with the wireless conection, so I will happily sit right here with just some mild walking to the mailbox :-)

One question I do have. I have heard that the uterus is an integral part of "core strength". Has anyone else heard that, and if so is there something I can do exercise-wise (later) to maintain that?

Hey Carol,
Best of luck and well wishes with your recovery. You will feel like a new person in a month. Do short shopping trips to keep the walking going but not the huge walmart run. Little at a time.
In answer to your question....not sure about the core thing but what i can tell you from my own TAH is this. Way down the road, after the doc oks any kind of exercise, start some abdominal strengthening to rehab those abdominal muscles. Crunches, mad cat stomach retraction and kegals. All those will help. If you ignore building these muscles back up, you will end up like me....hardly able to sit up to get out of the lazy-boy. I was lazy with this and am still paying for it. Just don't do it too soon...get doc's ok first. I look like an old woman trying to do a situp now...shouldn't be that way (lol)

 Carols (both) those tummy muscles will sag right along with the rest if not exercised and the older they get the more exercise they seem to need. Doesn't take long to get outta whack. :? And takes a lot longer to get it back where it belongs.

Becca-I live about 3-4 hours drive from where we camped in Yellowstone. Not a bad drive, but I rarely go...spend too much time worrying about those idiots who seem determined to get gored by a wild beast, besides, I'm not used to the traffic. By the time I get through I'm usually a wreck. Wasn't too bad this year, though.

Carol-Here's wishing you a speedy recovery

Hi Sam I just saw something on PBS about Yellowstone and the Bears. Yikes people are stupid they just throw all sense out the window. They feed the bears, try to pet them and just stand there while a bear is charging.

Carol get well soon. :worship:

Carol: Don't push yourself after that major surgery. I got a partial (still got ovaries) done and was in excellent shape then, very athletic and thought nothing of putting on those jeans and waltzing out of the hospital like I had just had my hair done or something. Well, 6 weeks later I was exhausted and run down. So take advantage of this down time to heal inside so you won't feel it later.

Sam: You are so lucky to live so close to Yellowstone. I hear you about the wild beast thing. I was one of those 'idiots' when we first lived around there and decided to get out and take a close up of a buffalo. I got warned by a ranger behind me about how they charge. I never did that again. I love animals but I despise bears! They are sneaky.

Mandy: I just returned from Wal-Mart where I spent an hour and a half shopping with a list and a hand full of coupons. I went in with a $100 and said I wasn't going to spend more than that and when she finished ringing up everything, including $45.22 in coupons, I had spent $99.03! :applause: I was so proud of myself and Brian was amazed. I had quite a few Buy One/Get One Free coupons along with a coupon for that same item so I got a lot of things dirt cheap. I even had a $4.00 coupon for a $5.00 item. I save the Sunday coupon fliers and wait until I have a good list going and then do my shopping. I saved $10.55 at Walgreens 2 days ago and only spent $16.00. I've always been a coupon user and I don't just buy it because I have a coupon...I use everything I buy. I only had about 10 items that I didn't have a coupon for...they just don't make coupons for watermelons!

Hi ladies, I've been shut in my house for two days because of hurricane Dolly. I couldn't work in the rain and wind. Boy did it tear up my garage tent where my tear drop is stored.I had the tear covered up real good so it is in great shape. I was so worried about it getting damaged from the high winds. We are lucky again and missed the bullet.
Carol I wish you well. Take it easy. :) Peg

Thanks for the advice. I am taking it easy. I'm hoping that the Dr. will be able to give me some belly strengthening exercises when the time is right so that I can do everything I did formerly without damaging the bladder repair. (Slinging around EZ-Up shelters, a propane tank, and actually moving my T@B around by hand should the need arise).

(I kept my ovaries too, thank goodness)

Peggy is everything OK out there or is it the disaster that the News said it was?

We are expecting the Storm to hit us by Saturday of Sunday here in NM.
I hope everthing is well with you.

I am not worthy to grace the same thread as you Rebecca. I need to start cliping coupons cause 100.00 is not going as far as it used to. :disappointed:

I have heard of this web site called the grocery game, its supposted to help with coupons and comparison shopping. I haven't used it cause they charge to use it, this goes against my inner cheap skate.
I was afraid that it was a scam, has anybody used this before.

I'm with you Mandy, I haven't clipped coupons in years and when I did I didn't save that much.

Becca we might have you give us lessons at the next rally.

 It took me awhile to discipline myself to use coupons too. It takes time to clip them, organize them and then not to forget to take them to the store :hammerhead:. The trick is to watch the store ads, especially for the buy one/get one free ads when you have a coupon for that item. The trip to Wal-Mart was a great one because I had some big dollar coupons, mostly $1, $2, $3 and a $4. The lowest one I used was $.50 and the item was $1.28 so I only paid $.78 for it and since it was a food item, there was no sales tax. I also get my coupons online and I don't use that Grocery Game because you do have to pay to join and I'm not paying someone for something I already know how to do. One thing I wish our stores did was double the coupons but not a single store here does it anymore. Knowing that I just put $45.22 back in my wallet keeps me clipping!

Yes and have used that one too. I have gotten free samples in the mail, which I give them my work address so I don't get loaded with 'junk' mail coming to my home and I give them an email address that I only use for getting coupons or freebies. Then if I get tired of the email, I just opt out or unsubscribe. I don't get a lot of freebies, just what I really use. Some things are a waste of time such as a free sample of shout...all you would get in the mail is one small packet for a single use so I don't waste my energy on sending off for that stuff. And I never spend a dime doing it, just send an email. Yes, you will get junk email but that's why I use a 'junk' email address only. Plus I give a lot of stuff to my boys. They know they can go in my food pantry anytime and take what they need. That's why I like the buy one/get one free. I buy - they get it free. What else are mom's for?? ;)
