Let me get a pic of it to show you..

here it is..it has a round plastic inside..

Would the above work?

I think that would be a nice touch, matching the top.

I think your idea would probably work just fine. I looked at the e_bay listing that somebody else suggested... and the description of the item said it vinyl wrapped. The pic looked like vinyl wrapped over a thin plastic tube and seamed very close to the tube (probably with something like a zipper foot on the sewing machine). I you have some short scraps, why not experiment and put a piece together and see how it looks and whether you like it or not. Personally I think if the welt matched the roof color it would look sharp!

I bolted the fenders on then put down a bead of black silicone It looks like welting but works better in my opinion. But it still ain't welting if that's your preference. 8)

Back in the days when fenders were large and bolted directaly to the bodies of vehicles, its is a rubber ribbon with one edge usualy rounded that was placed inbetween the fender and body. It filled the gap, made the seam look good, and prevented the two pannels from rubbing on each other.

Heikki, using the same fenders as yours, on the first tear, we were faced with the same problem...never did find any welting we liked and instead, used 1-1/4"x3/16th closed cell weatherstripping...adhesive on one side...we put it on the flat mounting face , level with the top edge of the fender...poke a hole thru the bolt hole, put it in place and bolt it down tight, the foam will seal everything better than regular welting and give you some vibration/shock resistance as well...you won't have the welting sticking up but the foam will give you a very clean finish line and will help hide any irregularities in the fender edge finish.....

Check this out. This place has welting that has a stainless or myler beads that gives a chrome welting look. My brother used it on his 1940 Ford and it looked great. A little pricey, but we only have two fenders!
