Is this the ultimate road bike?

I also would like to see photos. The biggest problem I have with recumbents is price. Maybe I could build what I want... With a bit of inspiration... and probably a welder. Though I have seen some interesting wooden recumbents.
Mike, you might want to look up recumbent buckboard. Relatively simple design but fairly impressive at the same time.

I assumed that it would be easy to find. It's not. Little more than a laminated ~1 inch thick curved piece of plywoood. IE something similair to what you did for the frame of the ultralight TD except rather wider. And that is the frame. Yes I do mean the builder made it from wood veneers no more than 1/4 inch thick. Probably less but not bein able to find it I'm not sure.

Like Alan, one of my motivations was cost...WAAAAAYYYY too much money for something I liked.

Probably going to go through a few iterations over the next several years, but it was a big enough improvement over my Canto that I'm going to stick with the basic concept...although "quadrider" Steve's mahogany trike is intriguing.

And they ride really nice. I had a chance to ride a couple of Sam Bennett's (that's the designer/builder) Buckboards at last year's Human Powered Challenge and was very impressed.

Going back to the original bike, I have a Trek Portland. Cyclecross components, disc brakes, removable fenders, and a triple chainring up front (important for my 40+ year old knees).

Shouldn't the ultimate bike come with pedals? Don't think turning the crank with my big toes stuck in those little crank holes is going to be comfortable.
