Owners of a TTT that is not a teardrop?

Postby Deb n Jon » Mon Jul 28, 2008 12:13 pm

We are owners of a vintage 1950's Heilite Travel Trailor and are curious if there are other TTT's or is everyone else a Teardrop owner? As Heilites are rare, this forum comes closest to one that might accept us as one of the group. Could other TTT's sign in like a roll call so we know who you are, what you have and where you are from? Thanks, look forward to hearing from you.

single wheel

Postby Deb n Jon » Mon Jul 28, 2008 1:55 pm

Bobhenry, I noticed in one of your pics that you have a single wheel trailer, our Heilite is a single wheel trailer too. I have just posted a picture of it, and I will take more pictures of it packed up and then you can see the single wheel and the custom ball hitch that we use to attach the trailor to our vehicle.

Hi, there. ;)

I've got a 1980 Sunline Sunspot--just about 4 1/2 ft. wide by 10 ft. long, with an interior height of 54" and a pair of doors at the back which open up into a pass-through galley. It's not a tear--but you can't really stand up in it, either (unless, like me, you're really short...!) My avatar is one view of it...more pics in my album.

You'll enjoy it here; this is a very fun and supportive group.

Welcome Deb n Jon, You've for sure found the right place for you TTT
Only one wheel :o I can't wait to see more pictures.

I have a home built tear, and am hoping to land a dirt cheap TTT to rebuild from someone at work when I can convince him he really doesn't need it 8) and he;s about ready to realize that

Welcome

Grew up camping in one of these.

Single wheel trailers are the easiest thing in the world to back up!

We've had one in the family since the 50's. Great memories from the past!!!

There is not a whole lot of info. out there about Heilite's that I have found. As a kid we traveled all over with the "Unicycle" while the grandparents camped in their Kenskill tear.

I think it's a TTT !! (I know it's lighter than most Teardrops and TTT's)

You guys will get a kick out of www.singlewheel.com a web site dedicated to single wheel trailers. They show 40 - 50 different models that were commercially built. The trailer you saw in my album is from that sight it is not mine. I had one and it got away from me. I really wish I had it back. I bought it at a farm auction for Two dollars  My grandfather had one he hauled his tools in. His Idea of vacation was visiting the kids and fixing things . He pulled it from michigan to florida many many trips and wore out 3 cars but the little 1 wheel trailer served him till his final days.

I started my camping career in one of these too! Mom loved it because she could back it up. My folks finally sold it in the early '70s. Brings back a lot of memories.

Does yours still have the pull-out kitchen? It was pretty neat too.

kitchen in a Heilite

Postby Deb n Jon » Sat Aug 02, 2008 9:33 am

Regretably no, we do not have the kitchen. Everything else, except for the mattress is original though. I would love to see a picture of the kitchen. By any chance does your family have a picture with it set up? Maybe we can reproduce something similar.
