Hi from England...

Postby Jason from England » Thu Jul 31, 2008 2:55 pm

Hi my name is Jason, I intending to build my own teardrop for a camping trip to Switzerland via Belgium and France for next year.

I have enjoyed several camping holidays in the UK with my young family but we have become a little bit peed off with the weather  and I hope to build a Tear that will accomodate us all (me the good lady wife and Tess and Owen, 6&7). I would be greatful if anyone has any tips on building a Tear for 4.

I am greatly impressed with this website Mike has built, if you were English Mike you would get a Knighthood it's that good. :applause:

I hope to build a tear with the help and support of you guys.

Cheers

Jason.

Welcome, Jason!

There are several folks who have built tears for 4. Because of where you are, I would inquire as to what you plan to use as a tow vehicle?
God Bless

Cliff

Welcome,

This is a huge brain trust. I was able to build a tear just from the info in this site. I didn't even see a teardrop in real life before I built one.

Image to the playground Jason and family. The kind of TD and size you build is totally up to you and the car you drive. There are a few that will make allow 4 to be comfortable even on a rainy cold day (Is there any other.) Look around in the Hall of Fame and the Member designs for some real good options. Let us know when you have a plan and we will help all we can.

Just remember the :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: keeps the bubble oil level. Seriously, they go a long way to explaining and remember what you are doing and need.

Well thank you all for a warm welcome, I think at this stage I am tempted to say I will be building a Benroy from the plans above(with some alterations) as the kids are small enough to fit in with us at the moment and if I am honest I would be a little bit afraid of tackleing anything bolder.

I will be researching trailers for the next few weeks and hope to find a reasoanble priced one locally as there are a number of builders nearby. I would like to fit one folderable bunk at the front bulhead if possible if anyone has any thoughts i would be graetful.
Cheers

Yes, we thought about getting a Deisel but the smell makes the wife sick after any type of journey, we were going to get rid of the Kangoo last year but we ended paying a fortune on the MOT so we will proable change come new year hopefully.

Hi Jason

Welcome this friendly, oh so useful site and to the growing band of UK builders.

Good luck with your search for your base trailer, have you considered getting an older caravan or just a caravan chassis and building on that?

One or two of us have gone down that route. In my hunt for a starting point I found that caravans that had reached the end of their useable life were a lot cheaper than trailers and also end up as a useful source for windows, galley equipment, 12/240 volt supply, matresses, etc. The main drawback is time spent on dis-assembly and disposing of the parts you don't want.

Whatever you do, good luck and happy building.

Cheers
