Avatar Help!

Postby CAJUN LADY » Tue Aug 05, 2008 11:22 am

I am trying to change my Avatar and I am not having any success. I have tried and tried and it won't accept the size no matter how small I make it. I have almost reduced it to the point where you can't see it! The KB is not big so I know that is not the problem. I need some help. :scratchthinking:

Is your new pic a JPEG? I think it has to be a certain kind of file. Kerry should chime in here when he gets back from his errands/ride/doctors appointment today.

Sometimes just having a small file size is just one of the parameters needed to upload an avatar. I believe the pixel size needs to be adjusted as well. Try something under 150x150 pixels. Depending on your graphics program, there may be an adjustment feature to reduce the size (resize) of the file.

Also make sure the bpi aren't to high, that will add size without it being a bigger picture. 100dpi vs. 300dpi makes a difference

Tried the 150x150...didn't work. Johnny, it is a JPG. How do I check the DPI's? I can't seem to find that when I try to edit the picture.

Even tried 100x100 pixels...still won't take it. This has happened before and I can't remember how I made it work.

Becca,

Your avatar can be no wider than 151pixels, no higher than 201pixels and the overall file size cannot exceed 244KB.

You current one is 148x148pixels and 146KB file size.

If you cannot figure it out, just email me the picture you want to use and I will fix it for you.

Finally!! Thank you KevinS and Kerry for resizing the photo for me. I am still questioning why my program wouldn't do it but it's done and I'm happy. And, I took that photo on my outside patio.

You probably needed to lower the resolution. I lowered the resolution to 72dpi and then resized the photo. Also saved it at a medium resolution. You should play around with what ever program that you are using to learn how to get a pic sized for your avatar and write it down for next time!!

BTW: That is a beautiful picture, but I like your old avatar better!!! 8)

Thanks Kerry. ;)
What program did you use to do that? I do remember making the resolution higher and that probably did work against me. I love taking pictures of flowers and my Bouganvilla plant(s) was blooming like crazy that day and the sun face looked like it was enjoying the day so I got a pretty good photo. That photo got a 2nd place award in an amatuer photo contest. My husband says he wishes I would hold a pot handle as much as I hold that camera.

Becca,

I used PhotoShop 7, but most graphics editing software will allow you to lower the resolution. Just play around with what you have and see if you can find it.

What program are you using??

Kerry, it's called PhotoScape, which I won't be using anymore. I am going to look into PhotoShop 7.

Thank you Johnny, Cliff, Scott, KevinS and Kerry for taking the time to help me with this. That's what I love about this forum - ask and you guys are always helpful.

PhotoShop 7 is expensive. You might want to look into PhotoShop Elements. Or you can download the GIMP for free and it does most of what PhotoShop does, but has a bit of a learninn curve.

Here are some other FREE programs that should do what you want.

PhotoPlus 6

Paint.NET

PhotoFiltre
