Nice photo Mike I think that is my grandad in the back
Ian I am a bit limited for space and the thought of having a old caravan in the front garden would mean me being evicted by the wife. No I think I will invest in a trailer made to my dimensions as the time spent reworking an old one and all the hasle I think this is the route I will take although I like the idea of getting parts such as electric, lights and vents.

Cheers

Jason.

Hi everyone newbie

Postby simmsimmtwo » Fri Aug 08, 2008 1:05 pm

I'm Glen from the Northeast (middlesbrough) and usually a kit car builder into AC cobra replica's, but with a picky misses that won't sleep under the tent anymore decided to build a TD to tow behind the kitacr and hopefully have it matching.
Saw on the earlier posting about using an old caravan, i was thinkking of that idea for the same reasons (free chassis, kitchen, cupboards windows , etc..) and using a 2 berth one, has anyone done this yet and any tips ?? also is there anywhere that sells the TD doors in the UK

Nice talking to you Simo

Glen,

A couple of local builders you might be interested in are Tardis Trailers (Stevie Bradford) in Sunderland who doesn't build teardrop-shaped bodies but does a nice lightweight frame,

and John in Ashington who got a local company to make him a frame for his Generic Benroy build:

Hi Jason,
I ve just got back from a few days away in the teardrop.

I started building in March this year. I used a caravan chassis, built the shell onto it, and later bought a donor caravan that was totally stripped of 240v and 12v electrics , roof vent , hinges , sink/ hob/ drainer etc.
I'm left with a chassis, ready for the second build.

I hope you have as much fun with your build as I did.

Cheers Dave
