Gettin'Ready To Build in Chico, CA

Postby cdfnchico » Sat Aug 02, 2008 6:20 pm

Been lurking awhile and even posted a few times, but it's time for a "formal" introduction...I saw a Teardrop at a car show a few weeks back and got very interested...we found this forum...and got more excited..at Dean's suggestion we visited Pamplin Grove (late) and met a few folks (Grant, Doug, Joanie, Shelley) and decided we could do this thing!!

We're going with a Generic Benroy 5X8...ordered our HFtrailer...will be here next week...cleaned the garage...we're ready! Will update with pics asap.

For now, however, I posted a pick I took on the way over to Eureka...My friends and I are photographers and had already detoured for several hours shooting "good stuff". It was after 1am and the fires were still raging along the Trinity River. We stopped and took several long exposures of the fire. Posted my fav in my album.

Looking forward to meeting more of you. The help here is awesome and I'm sure we'll need it!

Cathy
Welcome to the fun. :) Been lurking around here a bit myself. Lott’sa good information to be found. That’s a very cool picture. Reminds me of the one in Yellowstone with the Elk in the river

Anytime you guys want to come by, my shop is usually open...and after today...it is now clean! Or should I say, cleaner. I'm up HWY 50 in Camino. Have fun with your build, there's no right or wrong on design. Doug

Ruben...if you were at Cardo, did you go around the corner to Allied? They've got lots of RV stuff too, axles, brakes, parts, interior stuff etc...Kill 2 birds with one stone! Doug

Mike,
We have referred to the GenBen HOF several times...and will again I'm sure. Also have been gleaning tips from the galley thread as well. It is very cool to have so many great examples to ponder. As we wait for the HF trailer to arrive...we've been reading through the plans...why does the floor extend over the frame by 1/4'' on each side?

Doug...we are so lucky to have you to the south...Grant to the North...roadtrips are definitely in order!

Ruben...checked out your build pics...you're making good progress! Thanks for the tip.

Thanks Aunti M, Chet... Being able to take quick photo trips is one of our reasons for building a teardrop.

So you visited Pamplin Grove ehhh... Were you camping, or there just for the day? I am guessing the "cdf" in your username is Calif. Dept. of Forestry. Good luck on making all of your build decisions.

Great shot! :applause: It is amazing how beautiful, destructive, and captivating fire can be. Your photo captures all of that!

Keep the pictures coming!

We only managed to make it Sunday Morning...early..but not early enought to catch many of the revelers before they headed out. And "CDF"...is my initials... ;)

Cathy, Ok, that was a guess. Our company deals with CDF (CA Dept. of Forestry) quite a bit. Seeing the picture you took, (an awesome pic), I thought you may have ties.

Cathy & Leo--

Welcome aboard! I know there is already one TD recently built in Chico. Check for Rosey the Riveter. Personally, I was born & raised in Chico and spent lots of time in Bidwell Park. Again, welcome.

Hi Cathy, ah yes, the old "saw a teardrop at a car show and just have to have one" declaration. I can relate to that, it's how I got started over 5 years ago.
Do take pics as the build goes along, ask questions and if you get in a bind, haul it over to Doug's shop and he'll give you a hand. (you're welcome, Doug) Good luck on your build and look forward to seeing you at a future Gathering.
