Another question ..

Anything to do with mechanical, construction etc

Another question ..

Postby Hoosier Greg » Fri Aug 08, 2008 6:11 pm

With all these question ,you know I'm working on my build. :)
Yea ,making lots of saw dust. But with every forward step I take there seems to be a problem that crops up that needs to be solved before I can continue.....

So now I need to ask what would be the wisest choice . Keep the four lugged hubs my trailer came with and look for four lugged 14-15" rims. From where?
Or buy a new five lugged hubs and go from there.
My wall framing is ready for the exterior skin. But I want to prepare for the fenders prior to installing the interior skin. And as I see it ,it is best that I have my 15" wheels so I can lay out for the fender installation.

Wow! So simple yet so complicated.

Thanks Guys.
HG.

Well, from a load point of view, you shouldn't need five lugs for your TD, and if you use hub caps, you won't see the four lugs.

So, the only question in my mind is, can you get the wheel size you want in four lugs to fit your hubs?

If you can get wheels you want to fit your hubs, it seems like that would be the way to go -- the simplest route.

That's my two-cents, anyway.

Yea,that I thought of myself.
That's why I asked this.

Keep the four lugged hubs my trailer came with and look for four lugged 14-15" rims. From where? ?

Have any idea where I can find 14-15" wheels for a four lugger. Junk Yard?

I don't want to loose a week looking for wheels if they are not readily available.
Thanks for your suggestion.

Well, you could try a Google Search. Or, try Coker Tires, or Hubcap Mike. If they are available, you should be able to find them within 30 minutes online.

Happy hunting!

Try this web site. They make it easy to search their wheel selection by tire size and bolt pattern:

Just click on the Online Store in the top right corner.

I am not a trailer expert but you need to know if you are going to have clearance for wider tires too.

What kind of trailer do you have? Have you got pictures????

Thanks.
It's a Star craft pop up tent trailer torsion axle with 12" wheels. It appears like I'll have plenty of clearance to the outside wall.
Sorry, no pictures just yet.

I think I'm going to break down and buy a five lugged hub . That way if I have road problems it will be much easier to find a wheel with a five hole circle than an off brand four hole.

Thanks a bunch guys.

There are plenty of four lugged name brand wheels out there. Spend the money on some nice rims instead of new hubs.

That's cool. I like these black ones by U.S. Wheel:

Their 4 X 4.5 bolt pattern. I'm not sure what size your pattern is.

Darn! The only black 4 x 4 inch I could find are these 13 inchers:

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=AEO%2D30%2D184030&N=700+4294923107+4294923105+4294755961+115&autoview=sku

They come with backspacing from 2" to 4". I guess you will have to get some 5 x hubs and rims. Sorry. I'm a scrounger.

They seem to be a common trailer hub. Let me know what you get. I'm dying to see some black rims on a tear. That would look classy.
