Kdog,

Are you going to build it? How soon before you start?

Well I don't know, I'd have to see the design before I start to build. I would like to start building after my house is sold (closing is Sep. 5th) I'm still in the process of deciding what I want to build. I would love a ligthweight standie (less than 1000lbs) that has a portipotty area, roughly queensive sleeping on the floor and a fold away bunk for a kid but that would support an adult if necessary. I'm pretty sure the rear of the camper couldn't slope down as much as a typical Benroy or ET style design. I do not want a galley, I want to maximize interior space....

Just started playing with a profile for the standie. This standie does not have room for a bunk. But I'll keep that in mind when I work on the profile some more...

Ok no rush. I see your going by the ET platform. I would bring the front straight up from the bottom instead of curving in, but thats' just me.

Hi,

The profile of the compact or Skeetr might work, not so?

That's one of the nicer thing about the designs that we see posted on this forum and on Andrews site :)
you can make changes to the profiles to suit your needs and/or style.

Folks,

Many postings ago one design after another for something like the Winter Warrior were discussed. — A Standie that can fold down.

Now it seems as if that very good discussion went by the wayside and all that I see are ideas for a rigid Standie that cannot fold down for towing.

With today’s high fuel prices there is really room for a Foldie.

Can we divide this discussion in two?
— One for a rigid Standie
— One where the discussion for a Foldie is continued.

Thanks

Jim

Jim,

I second that!

When towing my current caravan, I can really feel how it holds back the car. The height of a standie is really something difficult to work out, because you need enough height for the majority of people to stand (at least 6 foot 2 inches in my opinion), but also need it to be as low as possible to maximise fuel economy and stability (lower center of gravity)

And I agree 100% about the fuel thing. In future this issue (fuel economy) will only become more important, and if I dare say it, I believe hard topped (non folding) standies and RV's will become less popular.

Hi,

What happened to the sideways sleeping arrangement? I went back a couple of pages and noticed that the previous image of the standie still had the sideways bed. Now it is lengthwise again. Didn't you mention that you did not have enough space to place it lengthwise?

If you put the bed sideways you might have enough space for a roomier bathroom, with a shower (to make GPW happy ;) )

It's 66" wide, and can be built on a HF 4x8 trailer, if you stretch the trailer a little bit.

The bed can convert into a table like the Generic ET. The bathroom is also similar to the Generic ET, only instead of being 36" wide, it's only 30" wide.

The space between the bed and the storage counter is only about 26" so it's pretty tight there too. Both the entry door, and the bathroom door can be 24", although I wouldn't recommend a door for the bathroom. A curtain might be a better option. Oh yes, it's a dry bathroom with a porta potty. No shower.

I'll start on the profile next.

Hmmmm

I see several different designs coming out of this threadie!

A rigid skinny standie.
Built on a HF 4x8 trailer

A wide standie
Built on a HF 5x8 trailer

and

A foldie
probably both wide and narrow foldies!

I'm going to have to start taking applications for designers soon!

Yeah, if I use a 5x8 camper and bring the sides out an extra 6 inches each side, you could put the bed sideways, just have to compensate for the wall thickness as well (2in?). I can't wait to get started I'm having a difficult time choosing a trailer. Northern Tool has one and theres' a Harbor Freight store nearby that I'll have to check out....

I'm working on a Lil Diner drawing, and then it's back to the Generic Standie.

Which version are you going to build KDog?
