SLO Gathering 2.0 Sept. 11-13, 2008 at Lopez Lake Campground

California, Nevada, Utah & Arizona includes Nor. Cal, So. Cal, and Arizona Tearjerkers Chapters

Am not positive I trust my memory but I think the Reserv. gal said there aren't hook ups in Beaver. I don't know if she was being site specific on my number 2 choice? or if it meant all spaces. Someone may want to verify that if they really need elec. She may have been mistaken or I could have misunderstood. Betty

Chris and myself are very excited, we are looking forward to seeing our new friends from last year, this year at Lopez Lake. We have been far too busy and haven't camped our average once a month this year, we have a lot of catching up to do. Is anyone up for horseshoes this time around?

Betty,
There are electrical outlets but no other "hookups" the electrical appears to be 20 amp, good for a small fridge, coffee pot, toaster or other small appliances, but probably not all at the same time.---Dano

Dan's right about the electrical outlets. You might even bring a low power strand of lights to light up your campsite for evenings too. All the Beaver campsites have an electric outlet near their level camping area. Also there are several water spigots nearby in the campground.

Here's a little more on what to expect. The campsites will each have a level area big enough for a good sized tent or two (or our teardrops). After entering the park you'll drive up a paved access road right next to your campsite, then drive over bare ground for several car lengths to your level camping area. Each one also has room, off the road, to park 2 vehicles (a few have room for 3). At some campsites you'll be able to drive straight in. Others may require backing in. Most campsites have some up or down slope to them between the road and the leveled camping area. We were told your trailer and your pull vehicle will count as two vehicles. There's an extra charge for more than two vehicles at a camp site.

It's important to bring wheel chocks and to use them before fully unhooking your trailer from your car or truck. (So your teardrop doesn't roll down the hill into the lake).

September is not far off. Look forward to seeing new and old friends and good camping.

I'm going to answer my own post asking Steve how his build is going as I talked to him yesterday.

Some of you know that Steve injured his back a few years ago and it's been acting up since a bit before IRG, so the long and short of it is he hasn't been able to work on his trailer much.

Then, to add insult to injury, his laptop died and he can't even get to T&TTT. I'm headed over to his house today and if we can't get his computer to boot I've got a spare I can loan him for a bit (I hope it still works...)

So, you'all think happy thoughts, light a candle, send up a prayer, or whatever it is you do so Steve gets to feeling better.

Steve, we'll all 'pulling' for you!

John

SLO Gathering

Postby Italia » Sun Aug 17, 2008 5:45 pm

Hello everyone,
Steve has encounter a patch of rough road and has asked us to lend a hand. We wish him and his computer a speedy recovery.
Glad to see the Beaver Campsite is filling up with less than a month to go before the second SLO gathering! The central coast has a lot to offer visitors, numerous gold medal winning wineries, Pismo,Shell and Avila Beaches, Farmers Markets in San Luis Obispo and Avila Beach. Clean air, beautiful sunsets and of course Lopez Lake is nestled in a setting of natural beauty, golden hills, oak trees and abundant wildlife.
Last year everybody joined together and made the SLO Gathering
a resounding success, this year will be no different.
Waffle Cook Off Saturday morning , Dutch Oven Demonstration, Pot Luck Dinner Saturday evening to mention just a few of last years high points. Many thanks to the Teardroppers who BBQ'd Friday evening last year, it was a nice touch. Would anyone like to take over for them this year?. Email us if you want help to make it happen.
We're excited to see what pleasent surprises await us this Gathering! Please let Chris and myself know if you need any help in making your personal vision a reality.--Dan and Chris

Wow-vintage campers close to home!

Postby Slim and Gabby » Sun Aug 17, 2008 6:13 pm

newbies here, we found you folks on a Google search.....we don't have a trailer, but do the complete vintage/retro tent camp with our 1956 Buick Century. Planning a swell Labor Day at Sta Margarita.

We'll come down to Lopez for the Saturday doings. OF COURSE we have a vintage waffle iron, and we'll make gluten free healthy waffles that will knock yer sox off! ( Really, they're actually GOOD).

Looking forward to seeing what other folks are doing......

Slim & Gabby,

Seems like most teardrop gathers have a tent camper or two, if for no other reason they are thinking of building and are gathering ideas. So why not reserve a site and join us for a night or three.

Oh darn-yer onto us!

Postby Slim and Gabby » Wed Aug 20, 2008 3:37 pm

thanks for the words of welcome.
Yes- you are onto us. We will be picking brains and stealing ideas.
Just saw a neat old "hamburger stand" tent trailer on line that has us inspired. My uncle had a great homemade one back in the day.

This is what has us excited at the moment:

Anybody got experience with a homemade tent trailer?

We're testing waffles!

We were the tent campers last year at SLO! We looked around asked lots of questions and received lots of answers.

Took away many ideas. We will be there this year with our oversized tear that is still a work in progress ( but will it ever be finished?) We are sure there will be new ideas.

It's getting close to a count down time, We can smell the waffles.

See you all in September!

September, and the SLO Gathering, are coming up soon. Chris "Italia" and John Bonnett "jhb" will be helping out.

I've got something, like sciatica, that's been making it difficult for me to move around. Teardrop construction is way, way behind because of it. I may not be able to attend the SLO Gathering. Hope I can. Maybe in a SST. If not, Chris and John will be in charge.

Who's gonna bring marshmallos? Duane King PMed me that he and friends may be singing around their campfire Saturday evening after the pot luck.
:campfire:

BTW, the weather here on the CA Central Coast has been great lately. Usually warm and sunny with days in the high 70's. Looks like good camping weather ahead.

My computer went kaput. Thanks to John Bonnet for lending me one and ending my withdrawal from the WWW and T&TTT.

Sorry to say I have had to bail out, A true bummer. It is due to a huge number of factors, tow vehicle up on jacks, work, life etc. I am going to miss you all. See you next year at SLO. I will still cook with Cast Iron that weekend!
