New guy from NC.

Been lurking for a while now, I had to sell my pop up and my truck to make way for the twins. My father in law is a cabinet builder so I have a shop 50 yards away from my house. We cannot afford another camper nor have anything to pull it with anymore, so here I am. I look forward to getting some help from anyone who will give it, did i mention I just recently scored a free Harbor Freight Trailer? So that has given me more more motivation to get things started. maybe by the time I am done the new family will be ready for there first camping trip. As much as I love the curved design I think I am going for the Squared off design to keep it easy on me. I would love suggestions of which design to go for.

Yup, now that you have a trailer you have no choice but to build a Teardrop.

Make sure you check out the Generic Benroy build plans in the Top menu. It's a great place to start. Also the Weekender Thread

Most on the forum indicate that the round vs. straight cuts is a toss up as far as skills and work. There are many examples of both as I'm sure you've already found while on the forum. I'm in the Goldsboro area of eastern NC and have my trailer and floor ready. Walls are next after I recover from a financial disaster. Welcome. You'll find lots of tips and the people on this forum are as helpful as they are friendly. I built my own tear and shes going to have her paint job this Saturday. It was all trial and error. But I loved every minute of it.

Preston, Although I've been a woodworker for over 20 years, Let me encourage you, if you would like to have the curved profile (it's all a matter of taste) view the design library there are layout templates you can make. take your time and ask questions "you can do it" maybe your father in Law would love to join you in this project. to the playground Springer. Both curved and straight have their challenges. It really is a matter of personal preference.

We will be happy to look at lots of pictures so get a camera and keep it handy. Keeps the bubble oil level.

Can I not just build on the HF trailer without welding on it?
Seems like everyone does not just use the trailer like it is.

Yep! No need to weld it. When you attach the floor it will hold everything together along with the bolts. Just follow the benroy plans and modify as needed.
