Where to drain the sink.

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Where to drain the sink.

I guess that's why the boating guys I used to work with called them aquatic speed bumps. Sorry folks. I didn't mean to digress the gray water discussion going on, that manatee thing popped in my mind and I just had to spew it out and turn the discussion to the light gray side for a moment. Sorry.

Hey, it's cool! And I didn't notice you're another Florida guy!

Woody, I think there's some momentum building here.

About the grey water thing, the new Camp-Inn trailer that I saw a couple of weeks ago drained the grey water straight to the ground under the trailer. Go figure.

Steve and all,

Yup, we used to have our sink drain go out to the bottom like most of the people on the forum do. But, as many of you noted alot of people messed it up for the rest of us teardroppers. We are running into more and more customers who are finding campgrounds and state parks that won't let them in without a gray water tank. That sort of takes the fun out of teardropping when you are getting hassled by the rangers. The biggest offender I have heard of is the big RVs with the showers that dump on the ground. This apparantly is pretty common. Alot of the private campgrounds have required gray water for this reason, they were getting rivers of soapy water running through their campgrounds. I can't for the life of me figure out why someone would want to use their RV's shower when they can walk over and use the campgrounds shower. Maybe its just me.

So, we have finally molded up a new water tank design (8 gallons!) that allows us to have a gray water tank on our unit also. We are already now putting them in new production as an upgrade as of a couple months ago and for the upcoming 2006 models the gray water will be standard.

The reality of it is that most people will just find a ditch to back up to and dump the gray water into. Has this really helped any in the case of a teardrop where the daily water dumped is measured in quarts? Compare that with some guy washing his car in his driveway.

Sounds like a pretty general consensus here. Thanks, it makes me feel good to know I am not alone.

I admit I have been a "tosser" in the past but I will head to Camping World and getting a Gage adjustment item tomorrow. They just happen to be on sale right now. In the Dog World it is about the dogs, not me. In the camping world it is about those who come later.

I do some dog events and we almost lost a primo site because one bozo decided to dump her gray water in the parking lot. We pay $100 for a weekend, in the Mid West they pay $500 with no guarantee of entries for the same kind of event. And we damn near lost the site.

I do Earthdog or Go-to-Ground, info at http://duffyscavern.org.
Got a terrier?? We may have a spot for you

That is part of what got me to make an interesting 2300 mile trip to Oregon and then to Hines to meet Merlin and the guys at High Desert Design, Freedom Teardrop, who made my unit. Well worth the trip even if the weather sucked.

A German who recently moved to Britain was shocked to find that doing this here is still legal - in her part of Germany, washing cars is now only allowed where the water gets cleaned and re-used. I don't doubt that in 20 or 50 years that will apply to all of us.

Personally, I find rain does a pretty good job....

Question....where do tent campers "deposit" their grey water from dish washing? Do you think they cary it to the RV dump? :D  ;)

As a tent camper, the only grey water I have to deal with is from dishes. I've always tossed it the bushes well away from my site.

As a side note to all the gray water discussionl. I had heard the Wal Mart no longer welcomes RV's to park overnight in their lots and this was one of the reasons. Some of the stores are close to residential neighborhoods and there were some complaints. Don't know how official that word is but I heard it from a RV camping regular., I'm sure there were other issues too......Doug Hodder
