Personally, there are two reasons for me to build a teardrop. The first is to same money and the second and most important is to get it the way I want it. Before I started building I looked at a lot of designs and although there were some things I liked about almost every one of them, none of them had everything that I wanted, so I'm building it!

I'm still trying to figure out my design? I need to incoraporate a place for my mobility scooter to go? I want it on the inside bit don't know if it should go on front or back? Lenght of scooter is 55" and it weighs 217# without batterys. I striped down an old pop-up for the frame. It's 74.75" wide and 189" long. I'm just glad I have time to make it.

I am very partial to the " Rimple". I find it easy to build, and there is more usable space in the 4 X 8 version. My Opinion.

I'm building a modified Honeymoon House Trailer. The main modifications are to make it 10 feet long and 4 feet 10 inches wide. The extra length allows me to fit a small wardrobe into the front and the extra width allows a double bed mattress.

On the one I am building, I have a Benroy front and a cubby style rear portion.
I am planning on a tongue box..so I guess it would resemble a Mac-Built Rt 66 ..more than any other..

I am still in my research stage and will start building around sept or oct. my trailer frame will be a 5'6"x 8' with 3500lb axle with the torsion flex suspension, 2"x4" tubed aluminum frame with a 1 ft xtended tongue to allow for 2 shorty 20lb propane tanks that will be covered to resemble the teardrop xterior, diamond plate is welded under the tubing so I can insulate a full 4 inches and wire the trailer. walls are gonna be 2 inches wide. skinned with 1/4 inch ply on both sides, structural members will be on 12 inch centers and where needed for openings, I am planning only 1 door at this time with a large window opposite. Roof will be 2 inches as well as I like cool weather camping (can you guess!! LOL) skinned with 1/4 ply as well, will use 1/8 aluminum or similiar to cover exterior haven't decided if I will paint or polish yet. I still have not figured out a solution to the wall and roof mating surfaces as I want to keep moulding to a mininum, your site has been a plethoria of great info and i look forward to meeting ya'll at some point in the future! thanks for letting me be here

Chris, if you are talking to me, sorry mistype on the trailer it is 2" x 4" tubed Duh!! trailer weighs 600lbs and other materials with batteries, electronic stuff, supplies and building materials trailer should be around 1300 to 1400 lbs I can pull that easy with my Blazer.

Me, I'm a Teardrop Junkie. I build a lot of Teardrops to support my Habit. What would I build, HuMM. That HF frame is really hard, cost wise to get away from, even with its 12" wheels. So I am embracing its faults and going with a Scad-A-Bout. Yes it origionally had 13" wheels but 12 are close enough.
But Not to tread on any toes the GrassHopper or the SunSpot are a great Marketable trailers. Though they don't have the traditional Teardrop shape, I think they were the next step in the evolution of the teardrop. This may be hard for a lot of us to accept but!! NOT EVERYBODYS idea of Retro is the same as yours?? Dumb Huh?? But it happens. I'm 53, to me retro is early 50's To somebody 33 Retro is early 70's. I build what I like and it sells. The great thing, and I mean the Really Great thing about these trailers is... there are no rules! We're all just a little bit off center, and when we meet other folks that are Just a little bit off center....It makes us feel like we're not alone. So Do what ever the H#$$ you want, somebody else will apprecieate it.
