Hi everyone, I am a newbie. I make vintage look awnings for vintage campers with awning rails. I would like to start making them for teardrop campers too. The shapes all seem to be a little different. Could an awning attach to the hatch? Do you close the hatch while camping or leave them up?From the pictures I have seen, there seems to be a need for teardrop awnings. Please let me know what you think. KF

Yes, some awnings have been attached to hatch, but most people like to be able to close their
hatch to keep critters out.

Thank you for the awning information. I am still trying to navigate this site and figure out how to post pictures.I have a 13' "Tag-A-Long" that we take our chocolate lab camping in.That probably sounds big to the teardrop campers!Eventually I will post some awning pictures for you.KF

I have an awning attached to my galley hatch. It is 4' wide at the hatch & 8ft wide at the poles. It is 10' long. About 15" is on top of the hatch. It is held on with 2 locking grommets on the hatch & 2 strap that attach to 2 locking grommet on the side. The poles adjust from 4.5' to 8' high.




I discoverd if I use bungie cords to stake down the poles I am able to open and close the hatch with it awning attached. I also put enough slope on the awning at night with the hatch is close that if it rains at night water does not pool on the awning.

Theyare placed on with waterproof adhesive and screws.Are there any wooden supports across the inside structure of the hatch to support a rail? Everyone's info. is very helpful. Thanks KF

Kristi How about on the side over the door. I know we usually picnic around the hatch. But on the side would be nice too. Keep the door open during the rain.

I ordred them from a sailboat supply place in Florida. I bought 10 of each piece & it cost around $15 including shipping.

The twist lock base is screwed into the blocking show in the lower picture, the same on as the mugs are hanging from.

I have successfully made an image in my personal gallery. Yeah! The awnings I make are made of sunbrella weatherproof material. I am presently trying to figure out what type of awning would work on a tear drop. They are so small and rounded that I think one coming off of the hatch might work the best. I just started inquiring today as to where an awning rail could be placed.
