Newbie from Fletcher NC

This is a great site. It is well organized with lots of good info. I have been looking at it for months now. I have been wanting to build a tear drop for about two years. The info on this site has really been helpful. Because of the commits on this site I have decided to make mine five foot wide for a queen size bed, about 9 to 10 feet long, storage under the bed and insulation top sides and bottom. A long Benroy style profile.

I now have the axle, tires, space saver spare (Lincoln town car), steel for the frame, front stabilizer with wheel and coupler. I still need a few things for the frame to start. (Atwood stabilizers for the back and a spare tire hoist).

I'm a cheap giant pack rat and have alot of the wood and other bits and pieces. I had a hard time finding bendable plywood (wackywood?). I was able to find it in Orlando FL "Dixie Plywood". They are very helpfull. My job sometimes takes me there. So I will pick it up when I go down again.

Once the frame is done then I will make a mock-up to get the finale design. I like what you guys did with the weekender and the OSB plywood. Great idea.

Anyway, as soon as I start I will post pictures as I go. This way I hope to contribute to this group and pay back some of the insight that you all have given me.

Welcome. I built my Tear, looks like you are on your way to building yours. There are great tips and people to answer any questions you may have. This is a great forum.

Thanks, I was in Altoona a few years ago. I'm also a model railroaded. Loved horseshoe curve. When I get the tear drop done, Altoona will be on may list to see again.

You're in a beautiful part of NC. You should be able to find many trips close to home, if not our coast is a treasure too! Sounds as though you are ready to dig into a tear build really soon. I'm near Goldsboro, NC and have a 4X9 started but have run in some major financial problems that have slowed my progress. I should have my build going again very soon and hope to see you guys camping some day. The folks on the forum are the best and will provide many options and ideas when asked so don't be bashful as questions arise.

Thanks, You all really make me fell welcome. My wife and I moved here about 22 years ago. My house faces west and looks out across a valley at Mt. Pisgah about 20 miles away. We love it here.

I see from the Destinations page that some of the Tear Jerkers will meet in Lexington NC on Sept.19-21. I would like to drive over and take a look at some of the tears. My wife still does not know if it will feel too claustrophobic for her. Looking at some of them will give her a better idea of what they will be like. This is also why I want to build a mock-up before I have a final plan.

I was thinking, "What does Mike have in that wineglass? That is a teeny trailer!". Then I saw the roof rolled back! Cool! I would vote for a window rather than a sliding roof, though, like Joanne has in her Desert Dawg. Just lay back and see the stars! Or the rain...
