Why do all the fancy wiring

Anything electric, AC or DC

Postby Arne » Sat Aug 30, 2008 7:31 am

The advantage is a clean design. Tear no. 1 was built fast. I drilled a hole in the side of the t/d, put on an outside recep cover and when camping would open the cover, push through an extension cord and hook it to a power strip.

It got old after a few dozen times, plus it was an entry point for fire ants down south (where we sprinkled comet cleanser around tires and tongue jack to keep them from coming in).... so I upgraded to the normal route..

Anything that you have to do continuously becomes a chore if there is an easier and more convenient way to do it.

Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

Extension cords?

Postby ArtMini » Mon Sep 01, 2008 10:19 pm

I was thinking, since I'm not very good with the electrical part of the build, I may wire my trailer with extension cords thru the walls and just plug into a couple neatly placed power strips maybe one under the inside cabinets and one under the top galley cabinets. I can wrap the connections with electrical tape to ensure they don't come apart. Also do I need a battery if I'm using a 12V converter for my 12V lighting, radio, and DVD player, thats about it for 12V stuff. Maybe a 12V outlet too just in case.

Mine will have built in electrical for the 12 volt but the 110 volt will be an extention cord.

right, and if I can't make it neato, I hide it... That's why the battery is behind the microwave. My inline fuse IS my control panel... not neat... but if you've ever seen the way I dress... kind of matches.

Though I'm only in the planning stage(boy, is that daunting) I'm going with a 12v system only. Most places I camp do not have power so 12v is fine. I'll throw in a gob of KISS and an extension cord if I ever have any 110v items other than a on board battery charger.
My main theory in my build is I don't have 110v while tent camping and the idea of the tear, for me, is a cozy, safe off the ground place to sleep.
Ok, now back to the research. :?

?Why buy a tent if you can just lay on the ground and cover up with a plastic trash bag?

Why build a trailer if a tent will do?

Why bring a flash light if you have a match?

Why put fancy electric systems in your trailer if a flash light will do?

Personal preference. :o

The same reason there are so many options available for anything we want to buy or do.

I did all the pretty stuff, lets see, 10 AC wall plugs and 4 12 volt plugs not to mention the 12 volt lighting,

IT WAS A PAIN IN THE REAR, but I'm very glad I did it. When I first flicked the switch and the mood lights came on, yeap, it was worth it :)

Repost from June 08......
I never concidered myself excessive or compulsive BUT 30 lights circuits on a little teardrop. Yep after spendind 2 days sorting out my wiring gremlins I decided to count the lights.

Galley hatch contains 11 I have redundent taillight (2 sets each side)
so I have 2 right turn/brake and 2 tail light circuits and the same for the left so thats 8 the galley dome is wired for ac and dc thats 2 more and the license plate light makes 11

there are 3 yellow and 1 red clearance lights each side thats 8 more

There is right and left porch lights ac and dc so thats 4 more
There are his and hers general lighting inside both ac and dc so thats 4 more.

My Black and Decker space saver under cabinet entertainment center has an ac undercounter light there's another 1
And I picked up 2 blue point mini driving lights that I installed as under chassis lighting for back up or breakdown lighting thats the final 2

CAUSE I WANTED TO SHOW OFF I GUESS !
