SLO Gathering 2.0 Sept. 11-13, 2008 at Lopez Lake Campground

California, Nevada, Utah & Arizona includes Nor. Cal, So. Cal, and Arizona Tearjerkers Chapters

Postby Esteban » Sat Aug 30, 2008 8:56 pm

Slim and Gabby, glad you found out about our little SLO teardrop gathering. Sounds like you'll fit right in, especially if you make some mouth smackingly (sp?) good waffles! :) Good eating brings us all together.

Matt, we'll miss you. Hope to see your warm smiling presence, again, at a future gathering.

How does 5:30 work for the start of the Saturday potluck?

With less than 2 weeks to go till the SLO Gathering it's increasingly looking like I may only be able to visit for a short while myself. I've been poked and scanned, with more to come, as docs try to figure out why walking has become difficult.

If I don't see you all at the SLO Gathering I hope everyone has a really good time.

The sweet wife just got out of the hospital from heel tendon surgery. I am a bit busy tending to her needs here at home, however my daughter might be able to spell me off for a few days during the gathering. How important is it that I have a pre-paid registration prior to my arrival? Is there any way I can pay for my campsite when I arrive at the gate?

The drive from Wildomar is only about 4 and 1/2 hours, and I sure would like to make it. I won't know for sure until the SLO date gets closer. Let me know what my options are, I will be waiting with baited breath..........Thanks.

Roly,

Last time anyone checked there were plenty of sites. A quick (your milage may vary...) call to 805-788-2381, ext. 3 (the reservation desk) should answer all your questions.

:( I'm real disappointed. For some unknown reason walking has become difficult. So, I won't be camping at the SLO Gathering this coming week. Chris and Dan "Italia" and John Bonnet "jhb" will take charge of the gathering. I'm hoping to come by for awhile on Saturday.

Most people who are coming came to the first SLO Gathering. John's offer/threat to bring raccoons from Los Osos to Lopez Lake campground is probably an idle one. It is, isn't it John? If not we'll need to call on some new SLO Angles.

:Flippin Burger: John says he'll probably bring a BBQ to use Friday evening. Last year we BBQ'd tri-tip steaks on Friday. It was a fun reason to meet, eat and socialize. It became a surprisingly good, unplanned, potluck too. So if you have some meat to put on the barbie please bring it by for a Meat and Greet. (OK, John?)

:picnic: Saturday evening about 5:30 PM is the time I'd planned for us all to start the pot luck. Check with Chris, Dan, or John for any updates.

If you need to shop there's a Trader Joe's in Arroyo Grande and another in SLO. They're good places to pick up tasty food and drink. SLO has a Costco just off Los Osos Valley Road westerly of 101. Several grocery stores are located along Grand Ave. in Arroyo Grande. Most of them west of 101. If you forgot something, or need more ice, Lopez Lake has a small camp $tore. too.

If you'd like a fun afternoon or evening out check out one of the local farmer's markets that'll happen during the SLO Gathering. All are enjoyable and different from each other.

The biggest one, the San Luis Obispo Thursday Night Farmer's Market, goes from 6 to 9 PM in downtown San Luis Obispo on Higuera Street. There are several blocks filled with farm fresh fruit and veggie stands, a block with a wide choice of BBQ and food stands for some temptingly good eating, several choices of entertainment, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy people watching.

On Friday Sept. 12th the the last Avila Beach Fisherman's and Farmers Market of the summer season will be happening from 4 to 8 PM on the beach front boardwalk. It's very fun. It's a smaller farmer's market with some really tasty fresh seafood food booths at the foot of the Avila Beach pier. Parking is free. It can fill up if you arrive late. Shival Experience, a popular local Reggae band, will be playing. Flipflops are optional.

On Saturday from noon till 2:30 PM Arroyo Grande has their
Arroyo Grande Farmer's Market and free Summer Concert Series by the creek in the historic village section of town.

The weather reports are expecting some light morning fog, nights in the 50s, and days in the 70s to 80s. SLO area weather Around here it's good to bring clothes that you can layer. Days at the lake will probably be good shorts and tee shirt days.

Hope everyone has a really good time! :D :) 8)

The report from MDO is none of the raccoons are willing to relocate to Lopez, the pick'ns are just to good in Los Osos. Besides, they think there will be a Isuzu with bacon again this year (sorry about that, Joanne, if you are reading this thread).

If folks are interested in a serious BBQ on Friday I can get a 2'x3' Santa Maria style grill, that should be large enough for all to cook at once. I'm not into the dutch oven thing, but I have a habit of stocking up on TJ's sausages and like to grill then for hours devours l and feel guilty eating them all my self (well, not that guilty), so if ya'all stop by looking hungry I'll be compelled to share them.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Tenters with Wishes

Postby notned » Fri Sep 12, 2008 3:56 pm

We're in a tent but I like the concept of teardrops. I had a 10 foot trailer in a past life. Anyway, it looks like things are shaking loose so that we can go. Will you be our friends? :worship:

Sure we'll be friends. You coming by for the potluck on Saturday? Tenters who like teardrops are welcome. Gotta start somewhere. :)

Someone else will have to take our place keeping the campground safe. I hope everyone has a good time. 8)

Steve B: Great to have you there on Saturday even though I didn't give you much choice... :) Well, if I had to carry you to the car I might have thought twice :?, but you're up and walking and looks like you'll be back working on the tear soon. :applause:
