Great Site-1934 w/pictures

Postby Floridacamper » Mon Aug 25, 2008 5:39 pm

Hello, great site you have here. I just happen to stumble upon it while researching tear drops.

I hate to get to the point so fast but I'm looking at a 1934 fully restored tear drop trailer and was wondering what it's worth.
I'm looking for what would be a good price on one that old and two which is more valuable, a newer model or a original one that has been restored?
I don't want to open up a can of worms, just trying to find out a little bit about them.

Thanks
-Mark

Image to the playground Mark. Ya gonna need a picture to get good information on this one. Truthfully the price is gonna depend on how much you want it and how much the other person is willing to sell it.

 Enjoy

These are the only ones I have if it. You can't tell a whole lot about it from them sorry. They say it's a 1934 model that has been completely restored but has been mostly stored under a carport since then

 MY first thought is it has dark windows and that will take away any historical value. My opinion only though. We have members here who specialize in the older stuff and hopefully they will be along soon.

The real big issue with an older trailer is being able to document the paper trail to the date the seller is indicating. On Jerome Guffey's 36, the VIN can certify it back to 36. A title with a manufacture date of 34 would be nice to have. Unless there is any documentation it's just what they say the date is. Those fenders are much newer design than 34 and maybe they were changed at some time. It is entirely possible that a tear was built on a 34 chassis and registered as such...I'm skeptical however, but then I'm not there looking at it...sorry. Doug

Vintage = :money:

It's not correct historically, but if you have a title or documentation which proves it was built in 34... Congratulations!!!
You have the oldest known teardrop, if so...

Wrong shape, wrong fenders, wrong doors and who knows what else. Although the ice box looks vintage. When you restore a teardrop, you make new what is old and maintain the original appearance. Ask him if he has pictures of it before he restored it. With that being said, he most likely wants to much and I'll just bet he hasn't got any pictures.

I'm with Gage and Doug on this one. It looks too modern to be a 1934 teardrop. Better check out the paperwork, if there is any. You might make him an offer to haul it off of his property for free...........Naw, just kidding. Good luck on what ever you decide.

I think I saw that trailer on Craig's List and in the body of the description it was labeled as a 1943 trailer. Possible typo? It sure looks much more like a 40's trailer to me. Wheels, fenders, doors (commercial) and so on. Left side door looks to be suicide and right side opens from the rear.

Yes it's on craigslist but no it doesn't say anything about it being a 43 model anywhere in the body of the desciption.
Here is the post

I am helping a friend sell this as part of an estate. It is a fully restored, beautiful tear drop trailer. These are collectors items and she is selling it to help pay for some of the costs of the estate as it is being settled. It is approx, 4' wide, 4' tall and 10' long. It has cabinetry in the back for meals, etc. and a bed inside the doors. It has one door on each side of the trailer.

I'm going to look at it tomorrow, hopefully they can clear things up for me

Thanks
