Hi my name is Duane and have loved teardrops for years. Never thought that I might have an opportunity to enjoy teardrop camping. I had the good luck to meet a bunch of very friendly of teardrop campers at Pamplin Grove campgrounds.
I am very interested in learning more about construction.
Please bear with me as I am not very computer literate. Right now my daughter is coaching me and encouraging me to get on the forum.
I want to learn about the different style of framing (wood or steel) and what is stronger, quieter, easier for someone without any trailer experience.
Thanks Duane

Duane,

Hey, great to have you here, I know the forum really helped me, even if I did go outside the box. And kudos to whoever is helping you with the computer, you will get it, just remember its just a tool.

Can't wait to see what you come up with

Hi Duane, welcome to the best forum on the net. Attending a teardrop gathering is a sure-fire way to get one interested in our little camping trailers. I may have met you, as I remember some stranger telling me that he was a local boy, and it might have been you.

As a novice builder, I suggest you stick to the standard wood construction and cover the exterior with what ever material suits you. A wood exterior requires out-of-the-weather storage and yearly sanding and fresh varnish if you want it to last. There are some builders that store their water resistant rigs out in the snow during the winter and don't seem to have any problems as long as proper maintainance is performed. Choose aluminum, fiberglass, FRP or other waterproof material and your care will be kept at a minimum.

Do check out the various trailers in the Hall of Fame and look at the Generic plans available on this site. If you get busy soon, I believe they are planning another get together next year at the campground next to Pamplin Grove, if I remember, it's called Swimmers Beach or something like that. Congrats on jumping head long into computer use. Once you get the hang of it, it's a snap. Good luck on what ever you decide to build and remember, ask questions, take pics and post em. We'll see you at a campground someday, when you are a proud teardrop builder and user.

Welcome to the forum!

You'll find the folks on the forum to be both very helpful and knowledgeable with anything to do with teardrops and tear drop construction. When you look at a teardrop build it looks overwhelming, but when it is broken down into individual task its very doable. You'll find many pictures of quality teardrops on the forum to provide inspiration and motivation.

PS. On the computer front, I had never turned one on 6 or so years ago and by now I have build 10+ from scratch and repaired countless computers. You won't have much trouble mastering basic computer skills.
