Newby in England

Postby Rigsby » Sun Aug 31, 2008 5:45 pm

Hi guys, Im Steve from Doncaster, England. Currently working as a mechanic for a multi franchise truck dealership. Im getting in to the TD thing after building the chassis for fellow member, Northern-Munkie (pictures posted in general discusions). Ive done a fair bit of camping over the years, but crawling in and out of damp tents has lost its appeal as i near the 40 years old time in life. So, once the main bits if the one i am building with the munkie are dome , i will start on mine. I already have a chassis that i can build it on, and i will try and build it to compliment my car that will be towing it (picture on my avatar). The onlt problem i have is that my garage is full with a car that i am converting( my other passion), so the td will have to be built outside, so the going could be slow with the british weather. If i can remember how to i will post some pictures as i go along
steve

Welcome to the Forum!

You should be able to build a very unique teardrop to compliment you tow vehicle. Take you time on your design so you will end up with what you really want. I too am building in my kitchen, outside deck and my backyard. It causes some problems and delays but certainly can and has been done. The folks on this forum are the best and very willing to share their expertise.

If you haven't had a chance to check them you might benefit from the Generic Benroy Plans, pictures in the Hall of Fame, and personal album of fellow forum members as a source of ideas as well as motivation. Don't forget to take plenty of pictures along the way to document your achievement and to aid when you post questions. Hope you get started soon and enjoy your build.

If that doesn't work let us know and we will give lots of help cause we gotta keep the bubble oil level. 8)

HI Steve

Welcome to the small, but growing, group of UK builders and this helpful friendly forum.

Best of luck with the build.

You may want to check out TearJerkers (link at the top of the page) there's a dedicated UK section over there.

Cheers

Hey Steve,

Lots of folks have built outside, under a tarp style garage. As you browse the threads and albums, you'll see them. It can be done! :)

Hi, Steve!

What is the car?
And what kind of conversion is the other car getting (sedan to pickup truck perhaps, judging from the car in the avatar)?

Thanks!

Škoda Pickup, Felicia Fun

This looks like a interesting tow rig. It reminds me of a Subaru Brat, but with a more sophisticated transforming cab like a Chevrolet Avalanche but with only the front seats fully enclosed. I've never seen anything quite like it.

That still leaves the "conversion" project for Steve to share with us, if he wants.

As mini renegade says , the photo is of my Skoda felicia fun. The other car is a Skoda estelle which i am converting from a four door saloon to a two door roadster. This involves strengthening the sills with steel box section, welding up and flushing the rear doors, then removing the roof and flushind the cut pillars and making a tonneau to cover the area where the rear seats would have been. If the link works, there should be a picture of a similar base car http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgur ... n%26sa%3DG

Hey Steve, the link works fine anyway... no problem as far as I'm concerned. Thanks!

Google link
more direct version (that's what's labeled with "Below is the image in its original context on the page" on the first page)

That Estelle is the only style of Skoda we ever got here, as far as I know. They were the subject of more jokes than compliments, but I realize that Skoda has a much richer history than most of us know about. While I personally can't quite understand putting in that kind of effort for the conversion of that car, different interests make the world a more interesting place.
