I finally got fed up with the little water pump from JC whitney. The next step up was $60 or so. A while back, I bought a 12V outdoor shower on e-bay for $20. It has a submergible pump, power pack (batteries or 12V), and a shower head. I snipped the shower head off, snipped the cig lighter head off, hard-wired it to my jc whitney faucet switch and we are in business. Next is to plumb the shower head and 6' hose back into the pump so it can be a shower as well. That pump is a great deal for $20 and is actually designed to be dropped in a bucket of water...Great for you collapsible water bucket folks!
Second, I built a 30-cent gas strut lock. You can see it in my photo album. It is a 12" piece of 1/2" elec. conduit (scrap) with a 1/4" section removed from it along its entire length. When the gas strut is open, it snaps on to the exposed rod, keeping the cylinder from closing. My fear was the gust of wind creating the Elvis-kung-fu chop effect on the unsuspecting chef.
