First Post from West Viginia...

Postby Gunswinger » Mon Sep 08, 2008 6:03 pm

Been reading the site for a couple of months now and studying :? all the plans I can find with out buying. Got a note book and jotting down some information. I like to camp, hunt, fish, prospect and metal detect. So I purchased a 1991 Ford Explorer for a good price and want to turn it into a go anywhere vehicle. Taking out the carpet and doing a bed liner spray to the floor. Want to haul my metal detecting and prospecting equipment and a small boat. But I also want to make a camper to go with the setup. One with a decent ground clearance so that it will follow me prospecting. This is my retirement project. Want to finish with the set up about the time I retire. :worship: So as I go along I will post pictures and maybe you can give me some ideas. I think I will call the camper "Brush Nugget". :applause: Sounds good for a prospector. LOL I also do a lot of DO cooking. Love the outdoors. Just got back from North Carolina Highbanking for gold. Thanks Everyone in advance.

Hey Gunswinger,

Welcome to the forum.

There's a few teardrops that come to mind. And they are all towed behind jeeps. You can see them in the Hall of Fame.

Welcome Gunswinger. You sure are in the right place for info on building. People here are so nice and really helpful. I am also getting ready to retire in 15 months. And built my Tear for that very reason. The wife even bought me a metal detector about 5 years ago. A Garrett GTA 750. Dont know too much about them but I have found a few pieces of Jewelry with it and a couple of coins. Nothing major though.
Well Im rambling good luck on your build,
Bill
Hope to see you on the road.

Thanks Everyone.... I got a couple of years before I retire but I like to trade for items that I need for the build. Half of the fun is seeing how much you can save on each item and still maintain the quality. Where is the hall of fame? I saw a tall trailer on the for sale forum. I think that I would like to start with a 5X10 unit with under the floor storage. Then place a box on the front. Just my beginning thoughts.

Welcome to the forum!

The Hall of Fame link is just above on the left hand side of the page. You will also find many pictures in other forum personal galleries and in the links above.

Hope your build goes good and you are able to get started soon.

remember that you will have to trade ground clearance for the under floor storage unless you just make it a couple inches deep
