Hi all I guess you know I'm new here  I have been building VW Trikes for the last few years now. I'm hoping to build my first TD this year . I will be asking questions as I go on with my build, I hope to have it done come spring of 2009 so my wife and I can go on the road for the spring and summer, I hope to be able to pull it with my VW Trike. We hope to get to meet every one next year on the road :)

Welcome to the forum!!

You will be able to find several examples of lightweight teardrops that have been build by forum members. If you've been building trikes you should have more than adequate skills to build a quality lightweight tear. I think I have seen a few tears built to be pulled by motorcycles in the Hall of Fame in the link on the left above. I believe there have been several post recently regarding tear build ideas to be towed by really light cars or motorcycles.

Take your time in the design / planning stage and you should be able to settle on a design that will be right for you. Hope you are able to get started soon and enjoy your build.

Welcome Redbone!
There are several Trike owners on the forum.
I know there is an several associations of trike builders in Arkansas. I attended a meeting two years ago at Ozark, Ar. The meeting rotates from different places in the state to serve all the members.

Enjoy your build and if you have any questions just post and you will be surprised how fast you will get an answer.

Pat

PS: VW's is not all these trikes are made from. Anything from scratch built frames to chopped doner cars. I wish I could find the picture of a V8 custom pulling Canned Ham; I seen at Broken Arrow, Ok car show this year. He had all the comforts of home while at the car show with a running A/C in the middle of a very hot asphalt parking lot. :D

Hi Redbone, welcome to the board. Be sure to build your tear as light as you can. I have a 40 inch by 72 incher that weighs a mear 245 pounds, so it can be done if you leave out all of the heavy stuff. Good luck on your build, take pics and post em, then when finished, come check out the West coast. Surf boards, ski boats, snow boards, dune buggies, parachute and ultra-lite rentals are available so you don't have to bring them along.

Image to the playground Redbone. I am sure you can make a TD the perfect size for a trike. Just leave off all the iron and 2"x4"s and you will be fine. ;) The other thing---you will need to :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: to keep the bubble oil level and the MadOnes happy. 8)

Welcome Redbone. I'm new too and have been reading a lot. I don't recall where I saw them, but there were some lightweight ideas/builds that would be great with a trike.

Hello Redbone,

Welcome from another semi newbie. Any pics of the trike? That's my other on-going project. Starting out with a '74 bug and going from there!
Tons of info here, and the people are always willing to help. Good luck with the build.
