Howdy, not to new but new enough. My wife and I have been looking at building a TD for about two years now and have just made a deal to purchase a 4x6 trailer to do our build on. We will be picking it up Saturday and have the exact details then. I will be picking brain cells of this web for information over the course of the winter with plans to start the build next summer. Unfortunatley I do not have a shop/garage to build it in so this will be a "fair weather" build (which should be interesting in coastal Alaska. I will start taking pictures starting when I hook the trailer up to the car for the first time. Thanks for this forum and the help I know you will provide.

Welcome to the forum. What do you plan on building on a 4x6? A Cub/Modernistic? (why else would you choose such a short trailer?

Hi and welcome Alskabear, with a name like that I'd make sure Ms. Palin aint's got her sights on you!

Good luck with your "fair weather" build, not that our weather is extreme as yours but I have had an "interesting" time dodging rain trying to build mine outdoors during the wetest summer I can remember, we got there eventually and I'm sure you will too!

Regards

Hello
Welcome to this wonderful forum. Living where you do I would guess the weather changes more quickly than it does here. We usually have a nice long fall season. Once you get started itll go quickly you get hooked.
Good luck to you and welcome.

Well I am planning on your basic Benroy style. Trailers (unless the are snow machine trailers) are expensive here so I jumped at this one. My plan is to extend 6" over each tire and 12" front and back to get the 5x8. With the style of trailer it is this will give me a 4'x6'x8" storage area under the bed deck. I can have my brother and father (welders) weld up a small box frame to set the floor on.

Hello Alaskabear, ninty-nine thousand, six hundred and eighty seven. I wonder if that number has anything to do with how many bears are left up there. Looks like you figured out exactly what you plan to do and how it will look when you get finished. Well more or less, lets see, what to cover it with, final shape, design of galley and shape of fenders. It'll all fal together as you go along.

I bullt an 8 footer on a 6ft frame, no problems so far, and don't expect any. You might want to consider altering the front and rear overhang, so your axle will be in the right place in order to attain the proper tongue weight. I had to shift mine even after I bolted the floor to the frame.

As problem questions arise, be sure to ask them here on the forum. We have lots of folks with lots of answers. Welcome aboard, take pics, post 'em and oh yes... good luck on your build.
 Roly
