It's time for a new Generic Standy Design...

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby mikeschn » Thu Sep 11, 2008 5:37 pm

Well, it's been a while in the making... I started building late last summer, and finished eariler this summer.

And it's not so much the Evac trailer that I had envisioned. It's more a generic standie. That's partly because I had to have a place to put 2 dogs. When I put them under the counter, I lost my space for the heater, the sink, etc.

So I put the heater in the bathroom. Now there's no way to put a shower in the bathroom. So no evacs in this one. Opps.

Meanwhile, it doesn't have a name yet. We call it a Giant Teardrop but of course, that's not the name either.

I'll go out and get some photos...

Gorgeous. Did you make the table? If so out of what? I like the finish on the wood as well - in a small area you want to keep it a lighter color so it doesn't feel dungeon like. Can't wait to get started....Muhahahahaha! (evil laugh)

I've been thinking, does the bed area HAVE to be 5ft wide? I'm wondering if I could get away with a 4ft or maybe 4'6" wide bed. I'll have to do some measuring. I've often thought about NOT putting a table bed in it and just using an air mattress on the floor which I could deflate and stow during the day so I could have more room in the daytime. Hmmmm....but the wheel wells pose a problem with the air mattress.... decisions, decisions....

Mike are you sure you would rather make the "mini Trailmanor".
you can paint a teardrop on the side.

http://trailmanor.com/?gclid=CNjIo73_4JUCFQJvswodJ2QmUw

Lost the name of the man who helped you with a build who had figured out how to make one.

Canned ham is fun but trailer manor gives you more room.
Then there are those trailers with the flip out tents at each end. (not for winter use)

It is true trailmanor has not true design and canned ham is more shaply for wind on the road.

Looks like you are having fun

KDOG

You asked does the bed have to be 5ft wide, well that is up to you, I have a 4ft wide tear and my wife and I are quite comfortable, but we have slept in a Full-bed for over 20 years and a full is only 53" wide, so when sleeping in the tear, we can roll to the side without falling off, so useable width isn't that much smaller, Oh we are fairly small adults, I am only 5' 2" and my wife isn't quite 4' 11", so that helps a bit.

Nope, not quite done yet. It has been a long build. I am ready for a break.

It's time to do a couple virtual builds.

Do you have the spring mech. worked out for the mini manor?

Lookin' good Mike! Can you tell us a little about the light you chose. Is it 12v LED, and is it variable? Does it provide enough light coverage, and where did you get it.

Thanks

Actually, it's a 120v halogen spot light. I bought them because they were expensive lights, being clearanced out at home depot for just a few dollars.

When I am off the grid, I have some Rayovac lanterns that I plug into the 12v plugs.

Nope I haven't given much thought to the lifts yet. Figured that would be something I'd have to figure out when and if I built it. But on the front half I think that the torsion bars that the real trailmanor uses would be hard to beat. I just don't know how you would do that at home. I wonder how long rebar would flex.
