trailer cutting!

Postby rhltechie » Tue Aug 19, 2008 3:38 pm

Hi All,

So I have a question about the generic benroy plans and the red trailer modification. The generic benroy plans say to cut 2” off of each crossmember, which it states there are four of. Well when I look at that trailer and look at the assembly instructions, there looks to be 6 crossmembers to me. Do I cut 2” off of every one here in red? The ones I have circled in green, these are the ones that will be placed inside the side rails I assume when I am done, so maybe the benroy plans do not count them as crossmembers? Just alittle confused and it would suck to cut up a $600 trailer the wrong way!

The 2 cross member in the middle is where it folds. You will cut and insert these cross members on the side rails and use a 2x4 in the center as a cross member. To make it a rigid trailer.... Let me look for some pics.....

Here is the 2x4 replacing the 2 cross members.

Here is the cross member cut about 24" and inserted in the side rails.

Remember the trailer is a folding trailer and we are making it ridged. The two cross member in the center is where its designed to fold. So we removed them, place them in the side rails and make a 2x4 for the center cross member.

Yes, You are correct. 2" off the cross members. Sorry I missed that in your original post.

Wow, diving right in. Good for you. The bug seems to have bitten hard. Next thing you know, you'll be doing something crazy like this guy did.

This is great, I was looking for the very same clarification, now that I've just picked up my trailer and have all the parts strewn on my deck!

So, those middle two crossmembers get cut down to 24", got it. Hopefully I can get started on this tonight!
