WOW...I'm in trouble

Postby opie051699 » Wed Sep 17, 2008 2:19 pm

I did a search for a small trailer I could tow with my Jeep to trail rides and that led me here...now I am planning on selling my 1983 Sunline T1550 so I can buy a utility trailer and a pile of lumber !! This is the coolest thing I've ever seen !! This combines all my favorite activities...camping, tinkering and asking my wife if I can have more money!!!

I can't wait to get started!!

The peril of Googling.

Welcome!

Have you seen Little Guy's new trailer for off-roading?

If you can, attend a rally... there you will see many different styles of t/d's... and get a lot of great ideas....

That way, after you build no. 1, and get started on no. 2, you won't have to make so many upgrades......

and yes, it certainly can become an illness... but your marriage will be happier... your wife won't be seeing much of you... :}

I started finishing up no. 2 in March, as the afternoons got warmer... I got done about a month ago.... I woke up the next day (I'm retired) and realize.... I don't have a job anymore..... no trips to Lowes, no more cutting, sanding and sawing...

I am a lost soul......

Welcome Opie, just wanted to let you know there's, no therapy, no 12 step program, no miracle cure. we who chose to build td's must grin and bear it. For the sake of those who'll never understand, try and not show your excitement when you talk about your build. Enjoy,(and I agree with Mike as your building, think of your next build. Blessings, Walt

Take a look at the off road section. You'll find some great folks there who have enjoyed building a TD to pull behind a Jeep. If you have any questions, just ask.Good luck. When I built mine, i was told it had to be done for our trip to CA. I had less than three months to build. But I loved it!

Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

Opie, no idea where in the country you're located, but the Sunline owners forum and vintage travel trailers yahoo! group are both full of people who might be interested in an '83 Sunline 1550. The Sunline owners forum web address is: http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/phpBB2/index.php

And if you go to yahoo! groups and search 'vintage travel trailers' you'll see the other group. If you need help finding them or making contact with the people most likely to be interested, PM me and I can get your information posted in each forum.

There weren't a lot of the smaller trailers made, and there aren't many still on the road, so when available those older, smaller Sunline models can generate a LOT of interest. I've got an '80 Sunspot. I had no idea how much interest it would generate until I went to a Tin Can Tourists rally last weekend, WITHOUT my trailer--and nearly every owner I spoke with wanted to see my Sunline pics, wished I'd have brought it down for the day even if I wasn't up to camping in the deluge (so they could go over it and take their own pics), and offered help and ideas on some of my trailer rehab issues. One guy even offered to tow it FOR me to their next gathering if I wasn't up to it myself! And yes, I've had a couple offers to buy it--sight unseen, so maybe they were just cyber offers, but still...

I am very familiar with the Sunline Forums and plan on posting some pics there this weekend in the for sale section....I may try Craigslist too locally (Southern Massachusetts)..and see what comes of that. Some have suggested Ebay, but there are way too many scammers out there, so that may not be an option. I'll take a look for the Vintage group...thanks for the heads-up.
