Teardrop Doorside Awning Prototype

I have been working on the teardrop doorside awning today. I hope to have the prototype finished and take pictures later. Some of you asked for a door side awning that will follow the contours of the teadrop and yet allow you to open your door even if it is raining. I think I have figured out something that will work. Keep your ideas coming in. KF

Sounds interesting. Tears arent real tall at the door. Can you walk under he awning. Im 5'2 so I m sure I wont have a problem but my guys 5'10. Is it taller at the legs than where it connects at the Tear? Im interested.

Hi,
This awning will be able to go higher or lower depending on the profile of your trailer. However, I don't think it will be able to keep the rain out if it goes up taller than the teardrop itself. I am almost finished with it. I am just as curious as you are too to see how it will work. Sometimes my crazy ideas are just that-CRAZY! KF

Hi again,
I just tried out the prototype and it still has a few problems. I will try to work them out tomorrow. Sorry, no pictures tonight. It is the same height where it connects to the trailer as it is further out. It will provide a little shade and rain protection plus a place for a couple of lawn chairs.Stay tuned for more ideas.Ha! I added dowel supports in four casings. I also added a center casing large enough to hold a flag pole. This would provide an easy instalation method, just put up a flag pole holder that has a 90 degree adjustment choice. Obviously, this is the protoype and many changes have needed to be made. I have however learned from this experience and feel confident that I could make a nice one in the future. Thanks for following my progress. KF

Something to think about. The roof line of the average teardrop is 5 feet off the ground, not 4 feet. So the side awning as it is now is to low.

My height is 5"5 at the door. Im sure each Tear is different. The more I think about it the more I like it. We are keeping our eye on you and your ideas. I think you could have alot of customers for this little roof. I may be your first customer. LOL

Thank you for that information. I do believe that if the sides are moved in and staked down closer together that the poles will flex further and the arch will go higher. To be on the safe side, however, if I ever make more than just a prototype I will be sure to make it a bit longer. Thanks again for your imput. KF
I measured the Toyota from the ground to the top of the roof and it measured 4 feet 8 inches. The prototype would flex enough for a 5' tall teardrop but be pushing it for 5'5". When I make the real thing I will remember to add length for a more universal fit.Thanks again.
