98% finished, going to DMV!!!

Postby TomW » Sun Sep 21, 2008 6:19 pm

I have reached the 98% point with my project.

Started April 07 with axle, iron, and wood. Now it is ready to take to get the registration and tag.

I tried to add a picture but could not get that to work, so I posted the results in my album. It is a 20 footer for visibility and I still have interior trim to do but it is ready for the road.

I have towed it on two 15 mile trips, for painting, and it pulls great. Tongue weight is about 100 to 110lb, gross weight is unknown. I have to get a weight before the DMV will do the registration.

Height is 11" off ground with total height being 59". Finish is automotive paint over epoxy sealer (5 coats). Seams are fiberglass reinforced.

I have not posted much about this but have been reading everything on this forum. The information and suggestions given were the best. There were times when I would look at my project and try to find a match to reduce it to ashes. After reading this forum and common sense prevailing, the results are worth it.

Once again thanks to everyone who responded to me when I asked, less than common sense questions.

I spotted a T@B at Lake Guntersville, Alabama last weekend, I hope to catch up with other Teardrops in Alabama soon.

:D

Great looking Benroy! When you say 20 footer are you talking from the tongue? How long is the body? 8)

Get out and enjoy. You have earned it.

Confusion on my part. Sorry about that. I have a friend who is a car refinisher/painter/restorer. He made the comment about it being a 20 footer. I guess he means visually. If you get up close, there are a few places where there was a run in the epoxy and I sanded until I could not sand any more.

I used the Generic Benroy plans and stretched them to 5 x 10. The tongue is 4' in length from the front wall. Total length, 14' 1/2"

haha nope you're alright, I knew what you mean about it being a 20 footer, I think it looks great up close too! I think I will have some imperfections too, and it just gives it character.
