Floor and insulation

Postby gusto » Thu Oct 02, 2008 8:52 pm

Well, I'm at the point where I'm working up the floor construction, just this evening I put a coating of roof tar on the bottom and screwed the four panels of EPS down.

My question is whether anybody has put any additional protection under the EPS, and whether it's even really necessary. Considering it's polystyrene, water won't be a problem, and I imagine you don't get a whole lot of rock kick-up under there.

Thanks!

You are right, very, very little rocks get kicked up underneath. Could wind be a problem ripping it off? Not sure. Also, just for the sake of looks it might look better. I covered the bottom of mine with 1/8" ply.

It added about $25 to the cost, and was coated with roof coating, so is aerodynamically flat.

I added ply as well, though I'm not sure it was really necessary. I did it mostly because it just seemed odd not to.

Thanks for the responses, guys. I'll consider putting another ply under there maybe. Although, I've done as suggested and put a dozen screws with fender washers in each panel of EPS, so I don't think it'll blow away. ;)

60 mph is allot of wind! Stuff would blow off my boat that I thought was too heavy or too well secured and that was running at half that speed! Plus I think the aerodynamics will give better mpg! IMHO
