Sink or no sink?

For what it's worth...one of those blue jugs with the spigot on it weighs 60# full approx. 7 gal. based on the moldings on the bottom. It also will take up approx. 1cu ft. of storage space. Seeings how a lot of people want to build light, that can be a fair amount of weight to haul in a tear especially if you know that there is good water in the campground that you are going to. Also not sink related, but a full 54qt. cooler with ice and beverages will go 80#.

I haul water usually, but in the truck...no sink. Whether or not you want or use a sink really depends on how you camp. I'm thinking we did a poll on sinks some time back. Here it is, but is pretty dated.

I'm thinking that a dishpan (or three) on the countertop/table would be much more versatile and a better use of space than a sink would be.

I love the idea that several builders have had of using the kind of water jugs that you can buy at Wal mart. That way, if you need to manage weight, you can easily manage how much water you carry, or even move the container to your car/truck.

I always use dishpans when I camp. A friend made up some plans for a 3 pan dishwashing station made from PVC pipe. I've included photos of it.



The green Coleman is a hot water machine. The blue Lowes cooler is the handwashing station. On the far right is the three pan dishwashing station. We use this set up when we do Dutch Oven demonstrations. The dishwashing station goes camping with me.

Thanks, Joanne. That's going into the notebook of ideas for sure! One event that I go to is a very large family reunion weekend, and I've never been terribly happy with the sanitation setup. (Former restaurant worker by trade).

I've been absolutely crazy busy, so not much to report. The rainy weather has kept me from doing the fiberglass resin stuff, but I'm hoping to accomplish that this week. I am going to see if Billy can come work this weekend and see if we can get the walls and ribs up.

I hope so - I want to get the shell and electric done before winter so I can spend the cold months getting the interior and kitchen done.

Hey, one quick question - I just wanted to make sure that the way we situated the trailer and added on a foot to make it 10 foot isn't going to throw off the tongue weight. Are you sure it'll be ok? I can shorten it up to 9 feet if I need to. Just checking before we get past the point of no return...

Personally I would have split the difference and put half it front and half in back. It will lighten your tongue a little the way you have it but a lot of it will be aesthetic too. Your fenders are gonna be about center which in my opinion doesn't give as nice a look.
You could still move it forward easy enough without shorting the profile. By just shortening the rear rails and moving that X-member forward and sliding the sides forward and attaching them all you'd need is to fill in the front after they are attached.
It is pretty simple to do.
You can have Billy call me and I can explain it to him if you want.
I think it can work the way you have it with the tongue box but it might not look as nice and you might not be happy with it. Look at some of the pics of other ones and you'll see what I mean about the fenders.

We got a wiener dog over here that does dishes real well and their even dry when she's finished.
