Ok the day is here that i either have to trash the fenders i have and start All over or move forward.. Here are some pictures of what i have now after the welder modified them as i asked. What i did was cut one side and had him weld in a plate at the back so the fender would sit flush to the side of the trailer.. My plan is to use some silkaflex and maybe a few stainless screws to hold the fender to the side of the trailer at the top. Then have the welder build two brackets for the bottom to bolt two. I had to notch the back plate out for it to fit over the axle.. Any feed back on either the fenders or on how you would mount them would be welcomed...

Eddie, your new fenders look good. It adds a rugged look like you're ready to take the teardrop into some back country areas with dirt roads and brush.

Did you install wood blocking inside your sandwich walls for the fenders?

Thanks Steve, I really just can't make my mind up if i like them or not.. To answer your question, no i didn't and that is something i regret now.. All i have to work with is 1/2inch outer layer.. thats why I'm planning on making the fender brackets at the bottom to help with the stress.

Eddie, I need to be careful not to offer advice too much above my newbie teardrop builder pay grade. You're much further along than I am building a TD. I think Steve Fredericks' CD has a potential solution for you to install your new fenders. He's used female threaded plugs, to hold fender bolts, set flush into the walls with epoxy. Your 1/2" plywood walls and some epoxy saturated foam insulation should be plenty strong enough to hold the female thread thingy (technical term?) in place. Around the floor level don't you have a greater depth of wood to screw into, or for installing some female plugs?

It's probably a good idea to ask Steve Fredericks over at his building discussion board for advice how to do it and where to get the part.



On a related note, no thread jacking intended, I'm trying to figure out how to build the bottom of my galley hatch and have started a poll and discussion over at Steve F's board. Would really welcome your input.

'Rubber well nuts might work. They swell up when you tighten the bolt, would be waterproof and would be a rubber mount that allows for a bit of flex.

Your color theme seems to be shiny metallics, with deep blue painted sides, and some white accents. The metal diamond plate fenders add a strong metallic punch and visual color balance to your teardrop.

Ok i just couldn't make up my mind on the fenders so i started a poll and got lots of great feedback.. If interested you can find the info Here But the nuts and bolts of it is that i just ended up cutting the fenders.. like this

I did it like this.. I hope it holds i tried one of these in a scrap piece of wood and couldn't pull it out with vice grips. I have 12 on each fender along with some of the same caulk i used on the roof skin.

Here is what I'm using to attach the fenders to the wall..

EZ-Lok type nut that is threaded inside and holds really well in the wall

Here is the wall predrilled before i screwed in the Ez LoK nuts. I placed some sealant in the hole then the Ez-Lok

I plan on using some of the spray rubberier undercoat inside the fender well.

While my teardrop will be campable for LCGIII, it will be fenderless I had bought some steel utility trailer fenders early on, but can't stand how they would look on the tear I like the looks of yours and am also trimming the bottom with diamond plate.

I also installed a seal for the bottom of my hatch.. I used a garage door seal and a piece of flat bar.. Heres how it turned out.

Seal install from the left.. What happens when the hatch is closed the flat part of the 2x4 presses down the seal and holds the water and dirt from getting in the bottom.

Here ya go!! Since i got them i have cut about 2 inches off one side of them and had a plate welded on so the fender would sit flush on the wall..

Eddie, I have used those inserts on other jobs and they worked very well...I don't think you should have any problems with those fenders staying in place...as the saying goes...there is more than one way to skin a cat!!!!!!!!
