I've been lurking on the forum for about a month now and decided to take the plunge so I could benefit from everyone's advice on this site. I plan to begin my bulid this fall/winter. I just completed my install of a 2" Valley hitch and an will start my trailer next week. Right now I'm set on a 5 x 8 trailer. Also, I've been searching for some information about using 3/4" for the walls and cut out spaces for the foam. I will skin the outside and inside and stumbled across some pictures of folks doing this, but not sure if this a good way to go? It seems sound in creating an internal frame and reducing the total weight. I welcome everyone's thoughts.....and excited about the build.

Welcome to the forum!

I also have seen several really nice teardrops built with the construction techniques you have described. I am using 1x2 because of the heat around the South where I will be doing most of my camping. I'm sure a post will prompt response from members who have built that way and have camped in them for a while. Hope your build goes good and you enjoy your build.

Thanks!!! I figured this would be the best way to build....by cutting out instead of construction of an internal frame. Then I could put it together and then glue on the outer and inner skins. I just cannot find the post where I saw it :x

That's the way I built mine. Works quite well.
Here's some pics.

Trailer is between 1080 & 1100lbs. since I added the tongue box, cabinet doors and foam mattress.

Walls are 1/4"-3/4"-1/4". The floor is also 3/4" which I now believe is un-necessary, could have been 1/2".

Image to the playground. You have a good plan as long as you cut enough out. It has been done and seems to me to be a much easier way than I used.

Be sure to make lots of marks for attachment points and I think you will be fine. Now to the important stuff..... :pictures: :pictures: :pictures: :hammer:  :designing: and all the above keep the bubble oil level. ;)

Welcome to the forum, glad you found us. There are all sorts of ways to construct side walls of teardrops, and if cutting out gobs of 3/4" plywood and infilling with insulation is your choice, I say go for it. In my shop, I never use 3/4 inch plywood and teardrops in the same sentence, since all of my tears are built with 1/4 inch walls. Not much need for insulation here in So Calif. With an AC unit and electric heater on board, we're all set for either of the extremes, if conditions exist. Good luck on your build, you will enjoy it for years to come. Take pics, post em and we'll see you at a gathering someday.

Thanks for the welcomes....... ;) Once I feel I'm ready to start the build, I'll provide updates and pictures and hopefully receive the necessary feedback and advice to keep the project on target. Thanks again....now back to reading many of the previous posts by fellow tear builders! :R
