Last tent camping trip...

Postby Jimbo » Sun Jul 25, 2004 12:05 pm

Hey all, My son and I just got back from what I hope to be our last night of tent camping. It has given us both the inspiration to work hard on the TD. Very crowded. The only reason we got a spot is because mother in the family were we ended up had hurt herself and they had to leave. Walked through campground but alas, not a teardrop to be found anywhere..

This brings up a question I've been wondering about...

Do campgrounds have any resistance to teardrop trailers in tent sites? It would have to be sites that you could get the trailer to but since our trailers are smaller than some tents I would think it shouldn't be a problem.

Jimbo,
Just think of how much less packing you'll have to do next time! We saw some huge tents this past campout. Looks like the newest thing is tents is the ones that have several rounded rooms around the largest center room. (never saw any other teardrops...just BIG motorhomes/trailers...NO small ones but ours!)
Bev

Nick,
I don't think most would have a problem with you're staying with the tents. When we camped in Hayes State Park, if I remember right, ours was a "tent/popup" spot.

I also noted on our last camping excursion, she was happy to put us in a narrow lot since we wouldn't take up as much room as the big trailers. I bet they would be happy to accomodate your request.

Tents with the bubble rooms hooked on are not too new, they have been out for at LEAST 5 years. And you would be supprised that some tents are warmer than some tears. I myself have a large 12x24 tent for when my father and I go hunting, with the small alaskan cook stove going it stays more than warm in the tent even when the temp drops way down.

I'll be honest, I don't ever want to be in another tent site. At least in the campgrounds that we have stayed in. It seems that the tent sites are an afterthought and the elect/water sites are the ones they really care about. We usually pay the little extra and get an "Improved" site rather than be jammed into the tent section even though we are tent camping. So far, the only real nice tent site we have stayed at is Cumberland Falls SP, KY. I highly recommend Cumberland Falls SP if anyone is looking for a great place to visit. It is one of only two places in the world where you can see a Moonbow from the falls when the moon is full and the sky is clear. In case anyone is interested, here's a link http://www.state.ky.us/agencies/parks/cumbfal2.htm. Super nice facilities also (At least when we were there two years ago). This past weekend, one "Primitive" site was all that was left. ;( But, we still had a fairly good time anyway. ;)[/url]

You are right about that. It is nicer to have the space and water/electric. The only prob is every one I have ever gone to the make us put the darn tent on the rocks. I might try that camp you where talking about, night.
