Tiger Tamer Chronicles - The Build

Postby rhltechie » Sun Oct 05, 2008 3:55 pm

Hi all,

I am starting my official build thread! :dancing

I went today and purchased my trailer..yay. I ended up with the NT carry on style. I am having my dad add a crossmember as well as adding some steel to make a A frame tongue out of the single tube that now exists. I will remove the fenders it came with and add my own later. I have decided to keep the current lights that came on it instead of adding my own to the back of the TD. I had to take the drivers side panel off in the rear cargo area and connect the wiring harness i also got from NT and then route it through the carriage to the hitch position.

Image

All worked out great and I now have the trailer lights, side light and blinkers working. Not sure when I will get the trailer down to my dad to add the steel, but hopefully very soon!

Here is my Jeep with my trailer taggin' behind!

That's so great! Will look forward to the progress pics.

Mine's chick-bought and I have tremendous respect for the chick-built.

Good luck!

So I am taking my trailer to my dad on monday to get my additional steel added for the tongue strengthening and addition A frame tongue. After watching my gamecocks win i decided I would go to my big box and get some thin stuff to make a profile. I also got a jig saw from sears this morning. After much talk ab out tools, I ended up with a craftsman. I am actually very pleased with it so far...obviously i havent cut anything heavy, but it feels like butter!!

Image

So I made my first haul from the store...a single peice of lonely plywood. Found it for a coupla bucks, so I figured it would do for a profile template.

Image

After I got back I started in and made my beam compasses, forgot the pics of those :( but here is the first cut in my life! as you can see...i cut big...i thought i was going to screw up with the saw, so i allowed for it..lol.

Image

What's this?? oh....its my first sawdust! wooo!!

Image

After I did the front I moved on to the back and made my other cut and then I had this! It still needs to be smoothed with a sander to get it "perfect" but it looks pretty good to my eye!

Image

I will probably move on to the door profile and such tomorrow. hopefully my dad gets my trailer back by next week so i can REALLY get started!

The next thing you know, you'll be kickin back in the cabin, surfin' the forum telling folks how cool it is to watch their build while admiring your own.

 :applause:

BTW, that's just what I'm doing now. It's awesome.
Holy cow, Rose is a teenager now! Done? Surely you jest. A teardrop is never "done".

Mandy,
One thing that helped us visualize the galley & shelves was to lay it out on the profile...we marked & moved until we were happy with it. It also helped us visualize as we were assembling the galley/cabinet unit. Image
Have fun!
