Newbie from Norway...

Postby leaded » Mon Oct 13, 2008 9:50 am

Hey, everyone! Glad to be here, found this site after some browsing from the ModernMechanix. Seems to be a lot of help/ideas here.
Here in Norway, the "Tears" are not plentyfull, but a lot of people at least the classic car guys, have thought about having one.
A lot of foldable campers, newer with tents, an older with hard sides is still in use, and owners keep them tight!

I´m 48y.o. and have a great interest in the US cars of the -50s, and also everything about it, music, accessories and more.
After some years travelling at meetings around Scandinavia with tent or campers, i found that the Tear is most suitable for my purpose.
I made a small one some years ago who the snow ( approx. 78" ) brake down, but it was really light, and not strong enough.......

Yet my plan is to built something suited to my purpose, and keep the ease of trailering, but big enough to have a nice time, even when weather is bad. And, the Cabin Car /Kampmaster seems nice. CabinCar is a little to high, but the profile is great, perhaps a cross between is the solution.

Here is a pic where one friends foldable camper is in the sight, behind my car, built in Norway in the late 50s- 60s. Its called the "little brother"
really nice, but to little.......? its folded down to just the grey underwagon.

It looks like chevy's are popular there. The trouble with a foldy trailer is having to put it up and take it down. With a tear no problem. If you get tired pull over, crawl in the tear sleep, get up close the door and you are back on the road again.. Jim G

Welcome to the forum, leaded.
Wow! Fender skirts and fins! I haven't seen that in a long time. Do you like everything from the 50s? Or just cars? I'm partial to telephones from the 50s myself. (and the the 40s on back to the 1880s)

Re:MOKI SEAKER Yeah!!! agree!
Re:4123 The Chevy is ment to be done styled with treatment as the classic kustoms of that era. and used a lot of years fix it, and yet more to be done, its about 60 changes of the original.
No, not collect just car stuff, and the things about it. I uses/got interior parts/ accessories in my home from the 50-60s, just collects everything who´s really suits my mind about nice design!
Ex. kitchenarea got bottle cap styled table and chairs from an old Rock Cafe,
some oldies steeringwheels on the wall, cuple of Singer sewingmachines from the 50s,( also used for car interior work) recordplayer oldies, whiskey/fishoil barrel/cans, etc.
But when the cars, etc. are main interest of course its a lot of theese parts hanging around...... 8)

Image and Welcome again...I looked up Molde on the map and wow you are North. I can see why the snow would crush your TD. I am wondering if anything with a large flat space on top might have that problem. Have you considered making it rounder or standing it so the snow and ice fall off?

Enjoy the site and thanks for the pictures. Great cars!

Welcome to the Board Leaded. Cool cars, that sucks about your first tear, but that gives you an excuse to build another. Have fun, and post lots of pictures, we all likes the pictures.

Up North, right! Born here, blame my parents......the style is the most important, what ever! I´m trying it out, and if not park it another place than the last one! ( one side was pressed in by snow between it and an old car)
But chassie is still standing ready for even another build......

Regards to everyone for the Welcom comments!
I see why a lot of the members found a great communite at this board!

Hi there leaded,

I've been impressed by those Lillebror trailers. Since you've seen them up close, can you tell me if the tent tops they have are just a single layer or two layers with some sort of insulation between?

Thanks,

Greg
